Weizhou Island Volcanic rock and sea-shaped shores make an island stay worthwhile; keep the sea crossing separate from the day you must catch a train or flight.
Weizhou is for travellers who want to slow down on a volcanic coast: dark rock against the water, a longer geological walk, small village roads and time for a seated seafood meal. The island offers more than a beach photograph. Crocodile Hill makes the geology visible, the western shore suits an unhurried afternoon, and the eastern rock platform or a village church adds a different experience when you have extra time.
Use two island nights around one complete visiting day, with a Beihai night before the outward ferry and another after the return. Stay in the Shiluokou area, arrange pier transfers and a licensed sightseeing vehicle through the accommodation, and choose Crocodile Hill plus a relaxed shore visit. Add a third island night for Wucaitan and Shengtang rather than forcing all five places into the short stay. If an inflexible connection or unsettled sea makes those buffers impossible, choose Beihai’s complete mainland stay instead.

The island’s main geological walk, with volcanic rock, sea-cut shapes and views over the water · The southern island’s Nanwan-side scenic area
Allow 3–4 hours with rests and the return to the vehicle · The operator-sold general island/scenic admission lists this area; ordinary adult reference ¥98. Selected internal transport is separate unless included.
A western-coast pause after the geological walk, with beach time and room for a slower stay · The western shore; default accommodation area
A relaxed afternoon, or a short evening shore walk before the local closure · The operator’s general scenic product lists Shiluokou. Rentals, water activities and any selected transport are additional purchases.
A sea-cut eastern rock platform, with different shapes visible as the waterline changes · Eastern coast; a separate road outing
About 1½–2 hours on the admitted route, plus road transfers · Confirm any current access, service or transport charge with the actual provider; the listed general-admission inclusions do not establish every optional service here.
A change from sea views: a church built with local coral-stone material and the village around it · Shengtang village, a separate inland/northeastern outing
About 1½–2 hours including a modest village walk · Shengtang is listed in the operator’s selected general scenic product. Interior access, worship and any locally selected service have their own conditions.
A seated meal, small shops and the island’s working-harbour setting · Nanwan; separate from Xijiao passenger-ferry pier
An arrival dinner or a meal after the geological visit · Pay for the food and any road transfer you choose. A meal here is not an extra scenic ticket product.
One geological walk, one shore base, optional alternatives
The numbered groups match the overview and detailed places: 1 Crocodile Hill + 2 Shiluokou form the default full day; 3 Wucaitan and 4 Shengtang church are alternatives or another island day; 5 Nanwan is a meal and street setting. This is a conceptual grouping, not a map of roads, entrances, compass directions or distances.
Xijiao Pier 西角码头 is where the Beihai passenger ferry arrives and departs. It is not Nanwan. Put an outward and return pier transfer into the accommodation plan, then price the sightseeing vehicle separately. Do not assume the small-looking island is one convenient walking circuit.
Use a licensed local vehicle through the accommodation for this first visit. This guide does not assume that a visitor can legally and safely ride a hired electric scooter. A three-island-night version gives Wucaitan and Shengtang their own day, leaving the departure morning for bags, checkout and the ferry.
The island experiences in detail
1. Crocodile Hill volcanic coast · 南湾鳄鱼山景区
This is the place to choose if volcanic landscape is the reason for crossing from Beihai. The walk brings the island’s solidified rock and sea erosion into the same view: rough surfaces, dark edges, changing water colour and a coast that is more sculpted than the mainland’s broad sand. Look at the shapes and layers from the admitted path instead of hunting for the exact photograph on a booking advertisement.
The effort is part of the decision. Expect walking and changes in level, with heat, wet surfaces and queues able to lengthen the visit. A sightseeing car does not remove all the walking within the scenic area. If your group needs a largely level visit, ask the operator about the exact route first and keep a shorter accessible shore stay as the alternative.
Do this as the full day’s main outing and eat afterwards. Do not add a boat trip to Xieyang Island or a wildlife excursion merely because an old photograph shows an offshore island. This guide has not verified a diving, whale-watching or private-boat operator and does not promise any of those experiences.
Hours
The operator product lists the scenic visit at 08:00–18:00. Confirm the actual opening, last entry and any coastal-path restriction on the day; a broad product timetable is not permission to stay on a closed path.
Tickets
Keep the island/scenic admission QR issued through the passport/manual process at Xijiao. The product says visitors who use a QR at the pier also use it at Crocodile Hill. Establish the permitted single-entry visit before using it; do not assume unlimited repeat admission.
Time
3–4 hours is an editorial allowance for the admitted geological walk, pauses and return. It is not a tested queue-free visit or a guaranteed step-free route.
Chinese address
北海市涠洲岛南湾鳄鱼山景区
Getting there
Ask the hotel to arrange a licensed vehicle to the current 鳄鱼山 visitor drop-off and a return pickup. Confirm any internal shuttle segment and cost before buying it. This is a separate land transfer from the Xijiao arrival pier.
How to visit
Visit in the morning with water and shoes with grip, following the currently open geological route and designated viewpoints. Take time to look at the rock and sea rather than treating every named formation as a compulsory stop. Return to the agreed vehicle; if a coastal section is closed, use the open admitted circuit only.
2. Shiluokou shore · 石螺口景区
Shiluokou supplies the breathing space that makes an island stay different from a day tour. Walk a manageable stretch, sit with a drink and notice the volcanic and sea-shaped rock around the sand. Returning to the same nearby room for a shower or a shaded break is often more rewarding than arranging another cross-island ride.
It is the default base because repeated shore time fits the short plan. That does not make every hotel with “sea view” directly on the beach, and the island’s narrow roads can add a final walk. Check the actual access with the property, especially with bags or limited mobility.
The operator designates bathing areas here and at Dishui Danping, but a published seasonal window is only one condition. The open zone, supervision, flags and current water matter. You can enjoy the same afternoon entirely on land; a rental seller or a clear-looking photograph is not evidence of safe swimming.
Hours
For the bathing area, the product publishes 08:00–19:00 in May–October and 08:00–18:00 in November–April, with adjustments for sea and tide conditions. Check the actual staffed zone and flags. A shore visit does not require entering the water.
Tickets
Your selected scenic product lists the area, but it is not an all-inclusive beach-service or water-sports ticket. Ask for a displayed total before accepting chairs, equipment or an activity.
Time
Use the second half of the complete island day for lunch, shade and a beach stretch. A sunset is a weather-dependent possibility, not an appointment that overrides closure.
Chinese address
涠洲岛石螺口景区;save the hotel’s precise road-accessible entrance.
Getting there
Return from Crocodile Hill to the Shiluokou hotel or a confirmed beach road drop-off, then walk only the comfortable admitted stretch. If staying elsewhere, agree the return vehicle before being dropped off.
How to visit
Keep this as land-based shore time by default. Swim only in the currently open designated supervised zone when staff and conditions permit; red warnings, storms or closure mean no entry. Return before the local instructions require, without walking around rocky headlands to another beach.
3. Wucaitan rock coast — an alternative · 五彩滩
Choose Wucaitan for exposed rock and the way the sea has cut the coast, rather than for another sandy-beach afternoon. More of the platform can be visible at lower water, but the interesting feature is the relationship between rock, cliff and changing sea, not a promise of five bright colours on demand.
It is a good alternative for travellers who care more about geology than sitting at Shiluokou. It does not need a predawn departure to be worthwhile. With a third island night, give it its own comfortable daylight outing; with only two, replace an existing shore stop. Do not turn a photographic sunrise goal into an unsafe dark walk on wet rock.
Hours
Visit in daylight when the admitted coast is open and the water, weather and staff instructions allow it. Do not use a sunrise time as a substitute for access information or a current tide assessment.
Tickets
This guide has not verified a separate current Wucaitan service tariff. Agree any parking, vehicle, guiding or equipment charge before accepting it; none is counted as a free activity or a required purchase.
Time
Allow 1½–2 hours plus outward and return road time; shorten the walk if tide, heat or footing makes it less comfortable.
Chinese address
涠洲岛五彩滩景区
Getting there
Book a distinct return road ride through the accommodation and specify 五彩滩, not a general east-coast pin. For the default two-island-night stay, replace part of Shiluokou time rather than adding it after an already long walk.
How to visit
Stay on the admitted path and permitted shore, observe the rock from a safe place and keep the return route open. Do not go under cliff overhangs, enter caves or follow people onto a platform because the tide appears low. If the accessible coast is closed, omit it and use the church village or hotel rest instead.
4. Shengtang Catholic Church and village · 盛塘天主教堂 · 圣堂景区
The church introduces another island story. Its coral-stone material and tall facade contrast with the coast’s volcanic forms and the smaller village buildings around it. Pause to look at construction texture and the relationship between church and settlement; it is more than a quick backdrop for a photograph.
This is the best alternative when your group wants architecture and village streets instead of another shore walk. It is also a respectful place of worship, so the visitor plan stays modest. If a service limits access, the exterior setting can still be interesting without claiming the interior is open. Do not collect coral or pieces of building material as souvenirs.
Hours
Ask about the current visitor period and any service before leaving. Worship takes priority, and a village street being open does not promise admission to the church interior.
Tickets
Keep the actual scenic admission and follow current entry instructions. Do not assume an optional electric-cart ride, private guide or souvenir is included or necessary.
Time
1½–2 hours is an editorial allowance for the church setting and a short village walk, without promising a service or full interior visit.
Chinese address
涠洲岛盛塘村天主教堂 · 圣堂景区
Getting there
Arrange a return vehicle to the current visitor drop-off and confirm the final walk with the property or driver. Combine with Wucaitan only on an extra island day with enough time, not on a tight ferry-departure morning.
How to visit
Look at the stonework and building outline, then take a quiet village walk. Enter the church only when visitors are admitted, respect worship and ask before photographing people. If interior access is unavailable, choose an exterior-and-village visit or return for rest rather than demanding entry.
5. Nanwan for a harbour meal · 南湾街 · 南湾海港街景
Nanwan adds everyday context to the scenic coast: boats, shops, loading and unloading, and places to sit down for a meal. Observe from public streets without blocking work or entering a pier. The harbour is part of a living island, not a promise of a peaceful promenade at every hour.
Use it for the arrival dinner only when the hotel can arrange an easy return, or for lunch after Crocodile Hill. A simple cooked fish or tofu dish with vegetables and rice can be more comfortable than buying an unfamiliar live catch and negotiating processing separately. The price checks belong at the table before ordering, not after the food is cooked.
Hours
Use an actually open restaurant in daylight or at dinner and agree the return ride. Individual businesses have their own hours; harbour activity is not a scheduled attraction.
Tickets
For seafood sold by weight, agree the species, weight unit, weighed amount, cooking charge and total before it is prepared. You do not need to buy live seafood at a market to have a complete island meal.
Time
Allow about 1½ hours for a seated meal and a short street look, adjusting for heat and vehicle timing.
Chinese address
涠洲岛南湾街;return ferry check-in is at 涠洲岛西角码头 instead.
Getting there
Use a licensed ride arranged through the hotel if staying at Shiluokou. Specify the restaurant’s road-accessible pickup, then return to the hotel; do not mistake the harbour for the departure ferry terminal.
How to visit
Choose a displayed-menu restaurant, eat first and take a short street look if comfortable. Keep the day’s main sightseeing elsewhere. If a return ride or reliable price is not clear, eat near the accommodation instead; this is a useful meal choice rather than a compulsory cross-island evening.
Secure both crossings and use the right passport procedure
Book 北海国际客运港 → 涠洲岛西角码头 and the return 涠洲岛西角码头 → 北海国际客运港. Use the operator’s Laiu8 ferry entry, its current 嗯噢哇 WeChat mini program / 来游吧官网 WeChat account, or the official ticket window at either port. The web entry may require login; no anonymous sailing inventory or foreign-card checkout is claimed here.
Select the actual date, sailing, cabin and every passenger’s real identity document. The operator lists passports as accepted documents for purchase and boarding. Carry the original used in the booking. If the form or payment cannot handle your passport, call 400-026-6260 or use the official port window before paying for non-refundable island rooms; do not substitute a made-up Chinese ID number.
Confirm both sailing orders, then buy the separate island/scenic admission for the outward arrival date. The operator-sold product directs foreign visitors to the Weizhou geological-park ticket desk at Xijiao Pier. Carry the passport, have each admission issued, and use the staffed/manual QR process. Tell the desk you are staying two nights and plan Crocodile Hill the following day, then confirm that visit’s permitted entry before completing the purchase. Keep that QR for Crocodile Hill. The ordinary adult product is listed at ¥98 per person; the prominently advertised ¥30 resident product is not the ordinary foreign-visitor ticket.
Give the island hotel the confirmed sailing, ask it to name the pier pickup and driver, and reserve the return pier transfer as well. Follow the actual order’s reporting/check-in instructions. As an editorial planning allowance, reach the port about 60–90 minutes before departure, with more time if the operator asks for it or documents need handling. The operator’s last sales cutoff is not a recommended arrival time.
Ferry fare, scenic admission and local transport are three separate costs. The scenic ticket does not buy a boat seat; a boat seat does not provide Crocodile Hill access, a hotel pickup or a sightseeing vehicle. A bundle is useful only when its stated dated inclusions cover the exact things you need. Check the admission’s permitted single-entry use; do not buy a second full admission just because the stay spans two island nights.
The passenger ferry does not carry vehicles, including folding or dismantled bicycles. Take only the luggage you need; the operator’s passenger rules state the baggage allowance. This guide does not offer a car-ferry or private-speedboat workaround.
Shiluokou for the shore; mainland beds on both sides
Shiluokou area: the default for two island nights because the shore is part of the stay rather than a separate excursion. Select a road-accessible property, establish the final walk with luggage, and ask about breakfast, meals nearby and both Xijiao transfers. A “sea-view” room may face the water without providing a short beach walk.
Nanwan: choose it if easy access to harbour meals matters more than repeated western-shore time. Inspect the precise access, noise and vehicle pickup; a harbour view is a different setting from a beach stay. Shengtang/eastern-village stays: better when village life or the eastern coast is your main interest, but put road rides to Crocodile Hill and meals into the budget.
Open Beihai accommodation search, enter two island nights, two adults and one room, then use the map or location filter for Weizhou Island / 涠洲岛 and the Shiluokou / 石螺口 area. Check that the pin is actually offshore, not a mainland hotel using the island name. Ask the property directly about passport check-in, pier transfers, a room’s actual rate and weather-related cancellation terms before payment. These are area choices, not tested named-hotel recommendations.
Book one Beihai night before crossing and one after returning, preferably with flexible terms and easy road access to the international passenger port. Keep an additional way to extend either stay if sailings stop. One planned buffer night reduces pressure; it cannot guarantee that a multi-day stoppage will end before your onward train.
Eat around your route, with the price agreed before cooking
On arrival, eat near the island hotel unless a comfortable Nanwan return ride is already arranged. After Crocodile Hill, a Nanwan lunch or a return to the Shiluokou hotel area gives the day a proper seated break before the beach. Carry water and a snack on the geological walk rather than counting on every stall being open.
For two adults, begin with one cooked fish or tofu dish, one vegetable dish and rice, adding more only if needed. Ask what the broth, sauces and garnishes contain; a vegetable dish can still use meat stock or shellfish. A piece of fruit can make a simple snack; buy what is available without adding a separate paid excursion to the day.
For seafood sold live or by weight, settle species, unit, weighed amount, preparation charge and final total before accepting the order. A displayed per-unit number is not necessarily the full dish price. The easy alternative is an itemised restaurant menu instead of buying a catch and finding a separate processing kitchen.
Finish the full sightseeing day with dinner near the room so the evening does not depend on another vehicle. On the departure morning, eat before leaving the hotel and carry water for check-in. Restaurants and room rates here were not field-tested; the budget’s meal allowance is an editorial spending input.
Two island nights inside a four-night extension
Arrival in Beihai · mainland night 1: settle into the hotel, confirm both ferry orders and the island property’s pickup, and eat locally. An incoming flight or train is not treated as a guaranteed same-day ferry connection.
Crossing day · island night 1: transfer to Beihai International Passenger Port with the original passport and enough check-in time. Take the confirmed sailing, complete the separate scenic-admission procedure at Xijiao and meet the agreed hotel vehicle. Keep the remaining afternoon for settling in and an easy local shore look. Choose Nanwan dinner only with a comfortable return; do not count a variable ferry arrival as a complete sightseeing day.
Complete island day · island night 2: have breakfast, visit Crocodile Hill in the morning, then take a seated lunch and shade break. Return to Shiluokou for a relaxed land-based shore afternoon and dinner near the hotel. Replace part of this shore time with Wucaitan only if the road return and admitted conditions are clear; the default does not add both eastern alternatives.
Return day · mainland night 2: breakfast, check out and take the reserved ride to Xijiao for the confirmed ferry. No major sightseeing is scheduled before check-in. Arrive back at Beihai International Passenger Port, transfer to the mainland hotel and sleep there. If there is comfortable time, choose a Qiaogang dinner using the Beihai guide.
Onward day: leave Beihai by the booked train or flight after the mainland night. This version therefore contains two island nights + two mainland nights = four nights, with one complete island sightseeing day.
Want Wucaitan and Shengtang as well? Add a third island night and a second complete island day. Use a confirmed return vehicle for a comfortable daylight Wucaitan visit, lunch, then the church village during its admitted visitor period. Keep the return and onward sequence on later days; the complete extension becomes five nights. With only a fixed same-day return available, choose the mainland plan rather than advertising this stay as a ferry day trip.
If the sea or booking fails, use the right recovery
Before the outward crossing: check the operator’s sailing notices and order messages, then ask the island hotel about conditions. When services are cancelled, stay on the mainland and use Beihai’s beach, arcades and food plan only where conditions are suitable. Do not pay for an unlicensed speedboat to bypass the suspension.
Already on the island: follow port and local instructions, contact the accommodation to extend the room, and obtain the next confirmed permitted return through the operator or original sales channel. Notify the onward airline or railway booking channel before its change deadline if the connection is now at risk. Never treat a social-media report that “boats are running” as your own confirmed seat.
For a cancelled sailing, use the actual purchase channel’s cancellation instructions. The operator distinguishes its own mini-program/window payment methods from other partner channels; a partner sale may require contacting that partner. Keep the order, cancellation message and payment record until the refund arrives. The hotel and scenic admission have separate rules: do not assume a ferry refund cancels everything else.
Wind can affect the crossing outside the hottest months too. Choose flexible room terms and keep funds for extra meals and nights. If days of delay would make your wider trip fail, the decisive alternative is mainland Beihai, not a smaller sailing buffer. On shore, obey barriers and red warnings and do not enter the sea at closed or undesignated places. The published island scenic rescue number is 0779-6016378.
Mainland arrival and the island’s complete return chain
For rail, search Beihai 北海 on 12306 with the actual origin and date; Nanning can be an inland connection to compare. For flights, use Beihai Fucheng Airport 北海福成机场 and the airline’s real schedule. The rail station, airport, international passenger port and island pier are four different transfer points.
The default chain is station/airport → mainland hotel → 北海国际客运港 → ferry → 涠洲岛西角码头 → island hotel. The return reverses the sea crossing, then goes to another mainland hotel night before the onward station/airport. Use a signed taxi queue or a matched app car on the mainland; ask the hotel for a licensed vehicle if booking fails. No fixed taxi fare or airport-to-ferry connection time is guaranteed here.
On the island, save 西角码头 and the hotel’s exact address offline, confirm where the driver will meet you, and ask who to call if the sailing changes. A sightseeing-vehicle quote should state all stops, waiting, passenger count, any internal shuttle exclusion and the return. It is different from the pier pickup quote. A hotel’s offer of “pickup” does not prove that the departure pier ride or full sightseeing day is included.
Do not travel to Nanwan for the Beihai passenger ferry. Do not assume you can take a rental vehicle over on the passenger boat. Keeping the actual port names in both directions is the simplest way to protect the return.
Two adults, two island nights and two mainland nights
For two ordinary-fare adults sharing one room, two island nights and one Beihai night before and after, use 2I + 2B + F + ¥196 + T + ¥860. I is the actual island room rate per night; B the mainland room rate; F is both adults’ total outward-and-return ferry cost; T is all selected mainland/pier/sightseeing road transfers. ¥196 is two ordinary-adult scenic admissions at the operator product’s published ¥98 reference; verify the actual product and do not add this twice inside a bundle. The ¥860 comprises ¥760 meals + ¥100 water and small contingency.
Worked planning inputs: I = ¥350, B = ¥250, F = ¥600 and T = ¥460. The pair’s total is ¥700 + ¥500 + ¥600 + ¥196 + ¥460 + ¥860 = ¥3,316. The four lettered amounts are illustrative inputs, not live room, ferry or vehicle quotes. F represents all four adult one-way boat seats; replace it with the actual selected cabin totals. T’s example allocates ¥160 for mainland road rides, ¥100 for both island pier transfers and ¥200 for the sightseeing vehicle; it is not a checked taxi tariff.
The meal input spans the first Beihai dinner through the onward-day breakfast, including the complete island day. Intercity trains/flights, guiding, diving, water activities, equipment rental, shopping and extra nights are excluded. Any selected internal scenic shuttle or optional service is additional unless the actual T/package expressly covers it. A weather delay adds actual room, meal and rebooking costs; the ¥100 small contingency is not a promise to cover a multi-day stoppage.
For the three-island-night / two-full-day version, add I + another day’s actual transport + extra meals. With illustrative extra inputs of ¥350 + ¥160 + ¥180, add ¥690, making ¥4,006 for the pair. The total then counts three island nights and two mainland nights. Keep the scenic ticket’s stated single-use terms when arranging the visits; do not assume a further Crocodile Hill entry is included.
Sources and what was actually checked
Sources were actually read on . The ferry operator’s current passenger notice supplies the ports, accepted passports, official sales channels, vehicle restriction and purchase-channel recovery. Its scenic product supplies ordinary adult admission, the foreign-visitor Xijiao window/QR process, listed inclusions and seasonal bathing-zone hours. Those are operator statements, not a completed foreign-passport transaction.
The island’s landscape and church descriptions are supported by the cited public ecology overview. Stay lengths, the mainland buffers, sightseeing order, walking allowances and all lettered budget examples are editorial planning choices. No hotel stay, restaurant meal, ferry ride, swim, passport payment or gate entry was field-tested. The anonymous web ferry entry required login; no actual sailing inventory, cabin quote or payment success is asserted. Photographs retain their capture dates and do not guarantee today’s weather or access.
