Beihai Slow beach time, an old trading street and Vietnamese-influenced food; add the volcanic island only when you have room for the sea crossing.
Beihai works best as a pause in a busy China trip: a wide pale beach, a late meal in Qiaogang and time to look up at the old trading-town arcades. The pleasure is not a long checklist. Choose it for coastal air, seafood and an unhurried change of pace after an inland Guangxi route.
Give the mainland two full days and three nights. Stay near Qiaogang for food and convenient road transfers to Silver Beach, or close to a named Silver Beach entrance if walking to the sand is your priority. The old city is on the peninsula’s northern side; do it as its own outing. Weizhou is a separate offshore destination, not a neighbourhood you can casually add between lunch and dinner.

One northern outing and one southern coastal day
Open full-size area diagram ↗. The numbered places match this guide’s choices. This editorial area diagram groups visits; box position does not encode direction, distance, paths or an entrance. ChinaMile diagram; location sources. Navigation: search the Chinese name in Amap.
The numbered places on this diagram separate the northern Old Street from the southern Silver Beach–Qiaogang pair. Travel by road between those groups. Weizhou sits offshore and requires another booking and accommodation decision.
Stay on the mainland if you have only a short break or an inflexible onward train. Add the island when the landscape matters enough to justify ferry dependence. If you mainly want karst scenery rather than the coast, give the time to Guilin and its surroundings instead; these are different kinds of Guangxi trip.
Choose three mainland experiences or add an island
1. Silver Beach · 北海银滩
The broad, light-coloured sand is the reason to come. Give yourself time to walk, sit and watch the changing waterline rather than trying to cover the resort’s entire coast. This is a beach outing even if you never enter the water; it is a good fit for travellers who want a slower day between cities.
Bring sun protection and use a shaded meal or hotel break in the middle of the day. A claimed sea-view room and direct access to your chosen beach entrance are different things: inspect the map before booking. Do not plan a swim on the strength of a photograph or a general description of calm water.
Hours
Visit during the resort’s current opening period, preferably outside the hottest part of the day. Sea access depends on the designated bathing zone, lifeguards and conditions; beach access does not mean swimming is permitted.
Tickets
Keep a simple shore walk as the default. Ask for the displayed total before renting chairs, lockers or equipment; no facility tariff is verified here.
Time
2–3 hours, shortened in strong sun or poor conditions.
Chinese address
北海市银海区北海银滩;save the exact entrance shown by your hotel.
Getting there
Use a taxi to the named Silver Beach entrance. A hotel labelled “Silver Beach” may still need a road transfer to the part you want.
How to visit
Choose one beach section and save the same pickup point for the return. Follow closures and warning flags. If conditions rule out a shore visit, keep the Qiaogang meal and move the beach to a calmer period; during a storm, remain indoors.
2. Beihai Old Street · 北海老街 · 珠海路
Along Zhuhai Road, the arcades create a sheltered edge between shops and street. Look at the variation in balconies, columns and ornamental fronts: the old port’s commercial connections are visible above the contemporary souvenir businesses.
The reward is an architectural walk rather than a guarantee of untouched historic life. Browse without feeling obliged to buy pearls or souvenirs. Pair it with a simple northern-city lunch, then return to the hotel for a rest instead of adding several cross-city stops in the heat.
Hours
Daylight shows the building details; shops and interiors have their own hours.
Tickets
Public-street walk; purchases and any paid interior are optional.
Time
About 2 hours, plus lunch or a drink.
Chinese address
北海市海城区珠海路;北海老街
Getting there
Take a taxi to a road-accessible end of 珠海路, then explore on foot. This is a separate transfer from the southern beach hotels.
How to visit
Walk a short continuous stretch, looking at upper-storey facades as well as stalls. Turn back when heat or rain makes the walk less pleasant; keep a pickup address at the street edge.
3. Qiaogang · 侨港风情街
Qiaogang’s overseas-Chinese history is part of its food character. Vietnamese-style rolled rice sheets, snacks and sweet soups make this a more distinctive dinner stop than a generic seafood restaurant chosen only for its sea view.
Choose two or three small dishes for the pair, then decide whether you want a larger seafood plate. The lanes can be busy; a seated restaurant suits a family or anyone who needs a rest better than carrying several takeaway bowls through the crowd. Cultural venues here are optional additions, not promised openings in this route.
Hours
Late afternoon into dinner is the suggested visit. Individual food businesses may open earlier or close on their own schedule.
Tickets
Order from a visible menu. For seafood sold by weight, agree the unit, weight, cooking charge and total.
Time
1½–2 hours, with seated stops rather than a rushed tasting list.
Chinese address
北海市银海区侨港镇;侨港风情街
Getting there
Take a local taxi from your beach hotel, or walk only if the actual route from your accommodation is comfortable. The whole southern coast is not one small pedestrian district.
How to visit
Start with a savoury dish, then a small dessert. Return from a road outside the busiest lanes. If you cannot obtain a taxi in the app, have the restaurant or hotel help arrange one.
4. Weizhou Island — an optional extension · 涠洲岛
Choose Weizhou when volcanic rock and an island stay are a central reason for coming to Beihai. Crocodile Hill 鳄鱼山 is the island’s geological focus; Shiluokou 石螺口 is an alternative coastal area for a slower afternoon. These are choices for an island stay, not additions to the mainland’s two-day schedule.
For a manageable extension, arrive and settle near your chosen coastal area, give the next day to one geological visit and a relaxed shore stop, then take a confirmed return sailing and sleep in Beihai before continuing inland. Arrange licensed local transport through the accommodation; this guide does not assume a visitor can legally or confidently ride a rental electric scooter.
Check the selected island admission product and Crocodile Hill access with the official ticket seller before paying; ferry fare alone is not a complete island budget. If sailing reliability or the passport booking process is unresolved, the mainland beach, old streets and Qiaogang remain a complete short break.
Hours
Only travel on confirmed sailings. Weather can alter or cancel services, and attractions keep their own opening hours.
Tickets
Book 北海国际客运港 → 涠洲岛西角码头 and the return in the operator’s booking channel. Passenger ferries do not carry vehicles, including folding bicycles.
Time
Allow 2 island nights if adding it to the mainland stay; return to Beihai before the day of an important onward connection.
Chinese address
北海国际客运港 ⇌ 涠洲岛西角码头
Getting there
Use Laiu8 or the operator’s current 嗯噢哇 WeChat mini program / 来游吧官网 account. Select travel date, sailing, cabin and every passenger’s real document details.
How to visit
The operator lists passports as accepted documents. Carry the original used for booking; if the form or payment fails, ask the official port ticket window or call 400-026-6260 before paying for non-refundable island accommodation. Secure the return and the island hotel’s pier transfer before departure. If the sailing is cancelled, use the original sales channel’s refund process and keep the mainland plan.
Make room for a Qiaogang dinner
Try 越式卷粉, Vietnamese-style rice-sheet rolls; ask what filling and sauce the shop uses. A bowl of seafood rice noodles makes a straightforward lunch, while 糖水, sweet dessert soup, fits a small final stop after dinner. Filling, broth and toppings vary, so do not treat a plain-looking rice dish as automatically vegetarian or shellfish-free.
For two adults, start with one roll portion each or two noodle bowls, share one additional savoury dish, then split a dessert if still hungry. Save a larger seafood meal for a restaurant with an itemised menu. Ask the total before ordering by weight; a small display price may refer to a different weight unit from the one you expect.
On the Old Street day, eat in that district at lunch and use Qiaogang for the evening only if it is near your hotel. These are food and area recommendations, not a verified menu or reservation at a named restaurant.
Qiaogang for meals, Silver Beach for the shore
Qiaogang: the default for travellers who value evening food choices and accept a short ride to the main beach. Pick a vehicle-accessible street outside the busiest eating lanes and ask about room noise.
Silver Beach: better for repeated beach visits and a slower resort-style stay. Check the exact walking route to a named entrance, available dinner nearby and whether “sea view” is a room attribute rather than a general hotel description.
Northern old city: better if arcades, city food and urban services matter more than beach time. It adds road transfers to Silver Beach and the ferry port. Confirm the room’s actual rate, cancellation terms and passport check-in arrangements before payment. Keep your final mainland night flexible if returning from Weizhou.
To find a room, open Beihai hotel listings and enter your dates, two adults and three nights. Use the map to choose Qiaogang or Silver Beach; confirm the actual entrance, passport check-in and cancellation conditions with the property before paying. This is a booking search, not a checked room or a guaranteed rate.
Two full days with time to slow down
Arrival evening · night 1: reach your southern-coast hotel, eat nearby and save the precise beach entrance and Old Street pickup names.
First full day · night 2: visit Old Street in the morning, have lunch in the old-city district and return for a shaded break. Choose a short coastal stroll later if conditions suit; have dinner in Qiaogang.
Second full day · night 3: use the comfortable part of the morning for Silver Beach. Break for lunch and rest. Return to the shore later only if you want more beach time; another Qiaogang meal is a better fit than squeezing in an offshore island.
Departure morning: collect bags and take your booked or metered ride to the correct station or airport. With only one full day, combine an Old Street morning, hotel break and a short Silver Beach visit followed by Qiaogang; accept that it is a fuller day. In persistent bad weather, shorten the stay rather than treating a closed beach as an obligation.
Use Beihai station; keep the ferry as a separate transfer
For rail, search Beihai 北海 on 12306, entering your real origin and travel date. Nanning is a useful inland connection to compare. For flights, choose Beihai Fucheng Airport 北海福成机场 and check the airline’s actual schedule.
Use the signed taxi queue or a matched app pickup for the first hotel transfer. Save both the hotel address and 北海站 for departure; a city sightseeing ride is not the same cost as an airport transfer. Ask the hotel to arrange a licensed taxi if mobile booking fails.
Island passengers need 北海国际客运港, not the railway station or an unspecified harbour. Check the operator’s boarding instructions and allow time for document handling and security. Its online sales cutoff is not a recommended arrival time. Do not put an important flight or train immediately after a sea crossing.
Three mainland nights, one shared room, two adults
For the mainland plan, use 3R + A + ¥760–1,100. R is your actual nightly room quote and A is the pair’s combined arrival and departure ground transfers. The editorial allowance is ¥500–700 for meals from arrival dinner to departure breakfast, ¥160–240 for local sightseeing rides and ¥100–160 for drinks and contingency.
For example, R = ¥300 and A = ¥120 gives ¥1,780–2,120 for two adults. These room and transfer values are sample inputs, not current quotes. The simple plan follows streets and the beach; add the posted charge for any selected rental, shower, activity or paid attraction. Exclude intercity fares, shopping and private guides.
A Weizhou extension is additional: 2I + F + E + T + M, where I is the island room rate per night, F both adults’ return ferry total, E their selected island/scenic admission, T port and island transfers, and M extra meals. Price each from the chosen dates and product; none is assumed to be zero. Add a mainland buffer night if it is not already in your schedule.
What is checked and what depends on your trip
Sources were reviewed on . The ferry operator’s current passenger notice establishes the two ports, accepted passports, sales channels and vehicle restriction. Government and resort material support the mainland areas and their character.
Visit lengths, the three-night mainland plan, island buffer and spending allowances are editorial recommendations. No restaurant meal, hotel stay or foreign-card payment was field-tested. Silver Beach facility prices and the island admission bundle are not fixed quotes in this guide; choose and price those services before treating them as part of the budget.
