Lijiang: Naxi towns below the snow mountain

Eight places at a glance

Choose experiences across your stay. The two active cableways and Blue Moon Valley belong to the one mountain outing below; they are not extra city stops to collect.

Choose nights and usable visit periods

Three nights protect two full days. Keep one usable day for town and one for a booked mountain outing. A fourth night gives Shuhe and Baisha their own time and a more flexible pace. Arrival and departure still need their own station or airport legs.

With less time: one full day suits the town and one chosen paid visit. Two full days support town plus mountain, or town plus villages when mountain weather or tickets fail. A cancelled cableway is not automatically valid tomorrow: use the seller’s change or refund route before rebooking.

Settle in with a nearby meal and short walk after a long arrival. Leave the high cableway for a rested later start, and do not make a mountain return the prelude to an early departure.

1. Dayan: follow the water through the town

Begin at the northern waterwheel, then follow the water toward Sifang Street. Look beyond shop signs: lanes follow the terrain; bridges cross narrow channels; timber posts, carved panels and tiled eaves frame courtyard entrances. The water system is part of how this town was built, not decoration added for photographs.

Hours

Outdoor lanes are accessible through the day and evening; shops and cultural courtyards keep their own hours. Start in daylight for the water system, then return after dinner for lights and street life.

Tickets

CNY 50 heritage maintenance fee, valid for 365 days after payment, covers the listed Dayan, Shuhe and Baisha areas. Keep the official receipt. Mufu, shows and other paid interiors are separate.

Getting there

Walk from a Dayan-edge hotel or take a taxi to the northern road-access approach. Cars cannot deliver you to every lane; agree the hotel’s luggage handover before arrival.

How to visit

Waterwheel → follow the canal to Sifang Street → Wuyi Street for another lane or Qiyi Street for Mufu and Zhongyi Market → dinner → your hotel. Side lanes are optional; private courtyards require permission.

From Sifang Street · 四方街, take Wuyi Street · 五一街 for a second lane walk, or Qiyi Street · 七一街 toward the south and a meal near Zhongyi Market. This is an orientation route; branch into a side lane and come back rather than collecting every shop. Morning suits seeing the street fabric; evenings add lights, music and crowds. A room facing a busy entertainment lane trades quiet sleep for that atmosphere.

Dayan's merchant-town history and Naxi, Han, Bai and Tibetan influences are visible in the mix of roofs, gateways and courtyards. A commercial tea shop or costume studio is a contemporary business; use the architecture and a named cultural visit to understand the town beyond shopping. Ask before photographing residents or entering a private courtyard.

2. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain: choose one active route

Glacier Park · 冰川公园 takes you by cableway to a 4,506 m upper platform, with a cold, exposed mountain landscape. Yunshanping · 云杉坪, often sold as Spruce Meadow, offers forest paths and an open meadow at 3,261 m. Those heights come from the operator's report. Choose Yunshanping for forest and meadow, rather than expecting glacier access. Both are high-altitude outings; the lower choice is not a health clearance. Both need timed tickets and an internal transport plan.

Hours

Entry and cableway boarding follow your dated reservation. Glacier Park tickets release at 20:00 and Yunshanping at 21:00 for seven days ahead. Confirm that date’s last descent before agreeing the return car; the two releases are not opening times.

Admission CNY 100 + internal bus CNY 20 + Glacier cableway CNY 120 = CNY 240; choosing Yunshanping CNY 40 makes CNY 160. City transfers, shows and optional carts are extra. Book the exact cableway and foreign-document procedure; Maoniuping is closed.

玉龙雪山新游客服务中心（白沙）· 云南省丽江市玉龙纳西族自治县白沙镇木都村委会东文一组玉甘路1号 (visitor-centre operator address). This is the admission/transport centre; your cableway ticket specifies its own mountain boarding hall.

Getting there

Reserve a round-trip car or a corrected, named tour from the hotel. Allow the road leg plus admission and the internal bus before cableway boarding. A vehicle reaching Ganhaizi has not reached the Glacier Park platform.

How to visit

Confirmed admission/checkpoint → internal bus for the booked cableway → ascent and permitted viewing paths → descent → Blue Moon Valley only if the return buffer allows → agreed car park → hotel. Keep a train or flight out of this evening.

Maoniuping · 牦牛坪, or Yak Meadow, is unavailable. The operator announced a closure from 4 March 2026 for reconstruction. Its expected 2028 reopening is an estimate pending a new announcement; an older three-cableway comparison is not a current choice.

Separate the products before paying

Scenic admission

¥100 per adult, plus ¥20 for the internal sightseeing bus, are the published base products. A cableway, show, mountain tram or local electric cart is a separate optional service. Read an actual bundle's inclusions so the same bus or admission is not bought twice.

Your exact cableway

Select Glacier Park or Yunshanping, its assigned boarding window, round-trip scope and included bus. The published ordinary cableway fares are ¥120 for Glacier Park and ¥40 for Yunshanping. Adding ¥100 admission and the ¥20 internal bus gives a planning total of ¥240 or ¥160 per adult, before city transfers or optional extras. A bundle may already include the bus. Child reductions vary by product; price the selected order using the actual ages and documents.

Blue Moon Valley · 蓝月谷

The pale blue pools and mountain wall are a lower scenic stop within the mountain outing. Its local electric cart is optional and distinct from the ¥20 sightseeing bus; you can choose the permitted walking route instead when time and mobility allow. It is not a substitute Glacier Park ticket.

City transfer and mountain tram

A taxi or tour road transfer is outside the base scenic ticket. The mountain sightseeing tram also needs its own ticket and timetable; it does not replace the internal bus or carry you to the Glacier Park upper platform.

Book the right window and identity

The operator manager's 23 September 2026 instructions give Glacier Park release at 20:00 for seven days ahead and Yunshanping release at 21:00 through the 丽江旅游集团 WeChat mini-program. Purchase and boarding use real-name and dynamic face checks; the same document and account are limited to one purchase within 90 days. Sold-out dates have online waitlist and change options; plan to travel only after a cableway ticket has been issued. Times are China time.

Scenic admission uses the separate 玉龙雪山景区服务 mini-program, up to seven days ahead. For an in-person admission purchase, go to Baisha New Visitor Centre · 白沙镇玉甘路1号（S223与玉泉路交叉口东南）. The old southwest checkpoint is primarily for inspection. That admission counter is not a promise of a Glacier Park cableway ticket.

The operator's July 2024 passport instructions require foreign-passport passengers to be ordered separately from Chinese ID-card passengers. The more recent notice retains real-name and face checks but does not spell out every foreign-document screen. For the current passport field, children's documents, photo checks and collection process, the verifiable enquiry exit is the cableway operator, +86 888 8889999. Admission enquiries: +86 888 5131068 or +86 888 5137678. Ask before paying if you cannot use the mini-program; telephone enquiry is not a telephone ticket-sale claim.

State the date, each traveller's nationality and original document type, exact cableway, adults/child ages, and whether you need both admission and the internal bus. Ask for the current foreign-document verification steps, the assigned boarding hall, any paper-ticket exchange and the last descent for that date. Carry the original passports used in the order. A hotel can help translate this call; the operator says it has not authorised hotels, drivers or online platforms to sell guaranteed standalone cableway slots.

If you need an English enquiry without a local app: Discover Beijing Tours' Lijiang private mountain tour publishes a website enquiry route and WhatsApp +86 135 2206 9857. Its listing specifies an English-speaking guide, private vehicle, Glacier Park return cableway, hotel return, and full passport names and numbers for ticket booking; travellers bring their original passports. Request a written quote with your exact active cableway, admission, internal bus, passport checks, pickup and weather-refund terms. The listing still advertises a Yak Meadow option despite the closure above, so require a corrected itinerary before paying. This is a named enquiry route; current stock, foreign-card payment and ticket issuance have not been tested.

Make the outward and return trip one plan

The management notice allows about 80 minutes from town to the scenic area in busy conditions, before admission and internal queues. Reserve an early usable boarding window and leave time for the correct internal bus and check-in hall. A seat on a city bus or a car arriving at Ganhaizi is not the cableway boarding appointment.

Have your driver or tour provider name the return car park, meeting time, latest waiting time and contact method. Current cableway last-descent and city-bus last-return times were not independently established here. If relying on public transport, obtain both directions' actual dated services before buying the cableway; otherwise choose a confirmed round-trip car. A late reallocated cableway slot can invalidate an older bus timetable, so do not build the return around a remembered 17:00 bus.

Use the cableway first. Then take Blue Moon Valley only when the remaining internal bus journey, walking and pickup still fit. Skip the optional show or electric cart when they consume the return buffer. If a queue or closure changes the day, message the driver before changing the meeting time and retain a town alternative.

Changes, closures and refunds

High wind or heavy rain can slow or stop the cableways, even with a valid ticket. For a direct mini-program order, use its order/refund or online customer-service route for unused items; a partial passenger refund may need customer service. For a contracted tour, ask the named organiser in writing which unused cableway, transport and show charges are returned, and who processes them. A fully sold package or oxygen/jacket inclusion does not guarantee weather or a boarding slot.

3. Mufu: the ruling family’s formal courts

The Mu family's former compound gives the town a political centre. Walk through its sequence of gateways, courtyards and halls, notice the formal axis against Dayan's irregular lanes, and allow time for the interpretation of Naxi rulers and their connections with other Chinese traditions. The present visitor complex includes reconstructed buildings; it should not be read as an untouched palace.

Hours

The provider listing gives 09:00–17:30 for daytime. Leave time for the full visit before closing; an evening session is a separate product.

Tickets

Published normal daytime admission CNY 40. Buy the daytime Mufu product, separate from the maintenance fee. Ask +86 888 5181468 for the current last entry or English interpretation if either determines your visit.

Getting there

Walk through south Dayan from Qiyi Street or your nearby hotel. Use the road-access edge for a taxi, then complete the final pedestrian leg.

How to visit

Entrance and interpretation → the main courtyard-and-hall axis → open side rooms → signed exit → Zhongyi Market or the old-town lanes. The reconstructed compound gives political context to #1.

4. Black Dragon Pool: water, pavilions and mountain views

Follow the northern town-side water route to the pool for a different scale: open water, bridge and pavilion, with Jade Dragon Snow Mountain behind them when cloud allows. Even without the mountain, the spring and buildings help explain the water feeding Dayan. Give it 1–2 hours; a clear morning is a better reason to go early than an unsupported promise of sunrise colour.

Hours

The provider lists 07:30–21:00, last entry 20:30. Choose a clear morning for mountain views; darkness and cloud change what you can see.

Tickets

The government rule expressly includes this park in the CNY 50, 365-day maintenance fee. Show an existing valid receipt instead of budgeting another CNY 50. It exempts children under 12 or under 1.2 m, and people aged 60 or over; bring the original document for counter verification. Enquiries: +86 888 5188041.

Getting there

Walk north from Dayan’s waterwheel along the town-side water route, or take a taxi to the named entrance when a shorter walk matters.

How to visit

Entrance → open poolside paths, bridge and pavilion viewpoints → spring landscape → return to the same entrance → Dayan. Keep it flexible when clouds hide the mountain.

5. Shuhe: spring-fed lanes and stone bridges

Use Qinglong Bridge · 青龙桥 and Nine-Tripod Dragon Pond · 九鼎龙潭 as anchors for a walk through the settlement. Look at the spring-fed channels, stone crossings and houses around the old trading streets. Tea-Horse Road commerce helps explain why this small place belonged to a wider network; the current cafés and guesthouses make it a comfortable base, rather than an escape from tourism.

Hours

Outdoor lanes suit a daylight walk, with cafés and shops opening individually. Visit the pond and stone crossings before dark; return journeys from a Dayan hotel need a road pickup.

Tickets

The CNY 50 maintenance-fee rule covers the listed Shuhe heritage area. Retain the same valid receipt. Drinks, museums, performances and private courtyards are separate choices.

Address

束河古镇（南门）· 云南省丽江市古城区束河镇束河古镇南侧 · mapped south gate. Use this named road-access gate for the outward and return meeting.

Getting there

Take a taxi or booked car from Dayan to the south gate. From a Shuhe resort, ask reception for the shortest pedestrian route; its hotel entrance may be elsewhere.

How to visit

South gate → old trading lanes → Qinglong Bridge → Nine-Tripod Dragon Pond → a café or lunch → south-gate pickup. Combine with #6 only when you have a separate half-to-full day.

Allow 2–3 hours for lanes and a drink or lunch. A Shuhe resort stay lets you return on foot locally, while a Dayan stay requires both road legs. Agree one road-access pickup with your driver, then walk inside; use a different car meeting point only after sending its exact pin and Chinese name.

6. Baisha: original murals and village streets

Continue north for a smaller street scale and the snow-mountain backdrop. Baisha's religious art brings Buddhist, Taoist and local cultural traditions into the same viewing visit. Choose the Baisha Murals · 白沙壁画 for that content, rather than treating the village only as a coffee stop.

Hours

The provider lists 08:30–17:30, last entry 17:00, for the mural site. Plan the paid visit in the middle of the day; village shops have separate hours.

Tickets

Published normal mural admission CNY 20, separate from the heritage maintenance fee. The original-mural visit and a digital/show product can have different inclusions; ask which rooms the offered ticket opens.

Getting there

Use a booked car from Dayan or continue north from Shuhe. Set the mural entrance as the walking start and agree the return road point before leaving the vehicle.

How to visit

Mural entrance → currently open original-painting rooms and interpretation → village streets → lunch or tea → agreed return pickup. For current room access call +86 888 3077606.

The culture bureau quotes ¥20 for the mural site, separate from the old-town maintenance fee. Allow about an hour for the site and another 1–2 hours for village streets and lunch. A June 2026 report described new digital and mixed-reality displays awaiting opening. It does not prove that a present ticket includes them or that every original painting is accessible. At the actual mural entrance, establish the rooms open, the ticket scope and any English explanation; do not substitute a digital-show ticket for the mural visit unknowingly.

Combine Shuhe and Baisha when village life interests you. From Dayan, reserve a car for the northern pair with a lunch stop and a fixed return. Adding both after a high cableway ride tends to turn them into quick shopping stops; use a separate day, or pick only one.

7. Yuhu Village: stone courtyards below the mountain

Choose Yuhu for a different building material and setting: rough stone walls and timber-framed courts below the mountain, with roof ornaments to notice as you walk. Local reporting describes three-sided courtyard houses and tile cats on the roof ridge. The village’s cafés and cultural businesses now sit within that fabric, so it is a living, working settlement as well as a visitor destination.

Hours

The village listing describes outdoor access throughout the day. Use daylight for the uneven lanes; shops, exhibitions and the visitor-centre services have their own hours.

Tickets

Choose the village walk before choosing a paid experience. A current operator tariff for visitor access and shuttles was not available in the sources read here: at the visitor centre, ask for pedestrian access and any required fare before paying. Horse rides, a shuttle and Rock’s former residence are separate products. If the offered package does not fit, keep #6 as the simpler northern visit.

Getting there

Arrange a car from Dayan or Baisha to the visitor centre and a return there. Complete the permitted village approach on foot or with the chosen local transport; the car agreement should not silently become a horse-riding package.

How to visit

Visitor centre and access information → public stone-house lanes → a permitted café or courtyard stop → the same pickup. Keep Rock’s residence as an optional separately ticketed interior; lake or mountain trails need their own time and conditions.

Look at the houses from public lanes, then choose one inviting café or open courtyard instead of treating every doorway as a sight. The recent village report describes Dongba cultural experiences in several courtyards; these have separate operators and availability. Ask permission before entering a home or photographing its residents.

Rock’s former residence is an optional interior for an interest in the explorer and his work, with its own ticket and access. This suggested outing does not require it, a horse ride or a lake trek. Keep the car at the agreed visitor-centre return point so a pleasant village walk does not end with an uncertain ride home.

8. Yufeng Temple: courtyards and spring camellias

Yufeng offers a short temple visit on the foothill side of Baisha. Its courtyards and wooded approach make a different pause from shopping streets. The best seasonal reason to choose it is the camellia courtyard: a report interviewing temple staff describes spring flowering, usually with March as the strongest viewing period. Weather shifts the flowers; a summer or autumn visitor should choose the temple itself, not expect a tree in bloom.

Hours

The provider lists 07:20–19:00 in summer and 07:30–18:00 in winter, without naming the changeover dates. A 09:00–16:00 visit fits both published windows; avoid relying on the first or final hour.

Tickets

The scenic management notice quotes a CNY 17 ordinary ticket. The summer student exemption in that notice has ended. Buy the temple ticket for your visit; do not buy a snow-mountain cableway product for this temple.

Getting there

Use a car from Baisha or make it a short stop paired with #7, with a waiting or return arrangement. It is not a walk from Dayan or a stop inside the Glacier Park cableway journey.

How to visit

Entrance → open temple courtyard and halls → the signed camellia courtyard path → return to the driver. Ask before interior photographs and leave worshippers space. Choose it for spring flowers or a specific interest in temple life.

Follow the signed path between the open worship spaces and camellia courtyard, allowing for steps. This is a small, specific-interest stop, not a replacement for the landscape of #2. Pair it with Yuhu or Baisha when your driver can wait; otherwise spend the time more slowly in the town you already chose.
