CHONGQING · KARST VALLEYS AND FOREST GRASSLAND

Wulong Walk below enormous natural arches, choose a narrow water-cut gorge or an open forest day, and leave room for the journey back up.

Wulong makes the scale of limestone country tangible. At Three Natural Bridges, you walk underneath vast rock spans rather than merely looking at mountains from a road. Longshuixia replaces that open, monumental scene with a close passage beside water. Higher up, Fairy Mountain offers forest and grassland, while Furong Cave adds an enclosed world of mineral formations on a different side of the district.

Choose three nights in Xiannüshan town and two full days: Three Natural Bridges first, then Fairy Mountain. Swap the forest day for Longshuixia if narrow gorges interest you more. Add a fourth night and a third full day to see all three comfortably. This is a landscape stay for travellers able to manage uneven paths and stairs; a long Chongqing day trip is best limited to the bridges. Furong Cave needs its own day and road arrangement, rather than a promise to fit four attractions into one outing.

Which places fit your visit?

  1. Start here1. Three Natural Bridges · 天生三桥

Walk below the immense Tianlong, Qinglong and Heilong rock arches · Separate scenic shuttle from Xiannüshan Visitor Centre

Allow 3–4 hours plus queues and transfers · Operator reference: ¥155 in March–October or ¥125 in November–February, including transfer and the specified entrance lift.

  2. Add by interest2. Longshuixia Gorge · 龙水峡地缝

A close, damp gorge walk beside streams and falls, with a narrow strip of sky · A different admitted descent and return from the same visitor-centre base

Allow a half day including transfers · Operator reference: ¥105 in March–October or ¥85 in November–February, including its transfer and lift.

  3. Add by interest3. Fairy Mountain National Forest Park · 仙女山国家森林公园

Open grassland and forest rather than another descent into limestone · Higher forest park; not the town called Xiannüshan

Allow a half to full day · Published ordinary admission: ¥50. Park train, winter activities and other experiences are separate products.

  4. For a specific interest4. Furong Cave · 芙蓉洞

Lit chambers, mineral curtains and varied cave formations · Jiangkou 江口 side: a separate regional road outing

Allow a separate day with road travel · Operator cave-and-ropeway reference: ¥150 in March–October or ¥135 in November–February; actual access may change during inspection.

Four choices, three transport settings

Wulong visit groups: Visitor-centre valleys: 1. Three Natural Bridges, 2. Longshuixia Gorge. Arrange each valley visit separately from the Xiannushan Town visitor centre. This grouping does not show a walking link.; Higher forest park: 3. Fairy Mountain National Forest Park. The higher forest park is a separate visit, not the visitor-centre town or a guaranteed extra after both valleys.; Separate Jiangkou branch: 4. Furong Cave. Allow separate transport and a return plan. Do not add the cave automatically to the core two-day stay.
Open full-size area diagram ↗. The numbers match this guide’s choices. These editorial groups explain combinations, not compass direction, distance, paths, entrances or current operation. ChinaMile editorial diagram; guide sources. Navigation: search the Chinese name in Amap.

The same numbers appear throughout: 1 bridges and 2 gorge depart from the Xiannüshan-town visitor-centre system; 3 forest park is a further, higher destination; 4 cave is the separate Jiangkou branch. The area diagram expresses these choices, not road distances, trail continuity or a live bus route.

Xiannüshan town 仙女山镇 / 仙女山度假区 is the practical accommodation base for the first three. It is different from both the forest park and Wulong’s urban centre by the river. Put bags at the hotel and make the scenic visits from that base. Do not interpret a fast train to Wulong South as arrival at a scenic gate.

The numbered places

1. Three Natural Bridges · 天生三桥

The point of the bridges is being below them. Looking upward changes your sense of scale: forest and cliff frame an opening that seems too large to be a bridge. The Tianfu courtyard gives the valley a human reference, but the rock, light and changing view as you walk are the main experience.

Walk the admitted route slowly enough to compare the three spans. This is not a ridge hike, and it is not an unlimited network of trails. The extra glass viewpoint and exit electric cart are distinct paid choices; the operator lists the latter at ¥15 when operating. Keep enough walking capacity for an unavailable cart rather than depending on it to rescue an otherwise unsuitable visit.

Hours
The 2026 register publishes 08:30–16:30 in September–April, 08:30–17:00 in May and 08:00–17:00 in June–August. The dated entry and last return govern the visit.
Tickets
Select 天生三桥 and inspect the included transfer and entrance lift. The ¥70 peak-season base admission in the government list is not the complete ¥155 operator product.
Time
Reserve 3–4 hours for a measured visit, with more for busy-day queues. This is an editorial allowance, not a guaranteed walking time.
Chinese address
重庆市武隆区仙女山镇游客接待中心 → 天生三桥
Getting there
Start at 仙女山游客接待中心, take the assigned scenic bus, descend by the permitted entrance route and follow the signed valley path to its staffed exit and return pickup.
How to visit
Look up at each arch, then compare the changing valley walls and Tianfu Official Post courtyard. Resolve the last climb or exit vehicle before descending; an entrance lift does not make the entire route step-free.

2. Longshuixia Gorge · 龙水峡地缝

Choose Longshuixia for enclosure, water and texture. It feels different from the broad bridge valleys: the walls press closer, vegetation hangs above the path and the sky becomes a thin opening. This is the better second karst visit if you enjoy the walk itself.

It also duplicates some of the bridges’ physical demands. With knee problems, fatigue or persistent wet weather, a second descent is a poor default. A longer stay lets you spread the two visits over different mornings and use the remaining time to rest, rather than making a package’s site list determine your pace.

Hours
Check the day’s gorge opening, admission cutoff, open route and final return at the centre. Heavy rain or a safety closure can remove this choice.
Tickets
Buy 龙水峡地缝, including its own transfer and lift if using the published combined product. A bridges ticket alone does not admit you.
Time
Keep a separate half day with a rest afterwards; combine with the bridges only if staff confirm enough time and you accept two stair-heavy visits.
Chinese address
重庆市武隆区仙女山街道 · 龙水峡地缝景区
Getting there
Use the scenic transfer assigned at the visitor centre. Ask whether the current route returns to the entrance or uses another staffed exit, and where that day’s bus returns to town.
How to visit
Follow the open path beside the gorge water, allowing space at stairs and wet narrow sections. The operator still carries an old temporary route notice: do not infer today’s exit from a historic diagram. If it closes, keep a town rest or an open forest day instead.

3. Fairy Mountain National Forest Park · 仙女山国家森林公园

The park changes the visual register. Grassland and forest replace the deep valley, and the longer views provide a release after a morning spent looking up at cliffs. Choose it for a slower second day, cooler mountain air and time outdoors.

Choose one modest walk and an optional train ride rather than every attraction sold at the entrance. Flowers, grass colour and snow depend on season and conditions; a winter visit must be viable without promised snow sports. Stay out of the vehicle roadway when taking photographs.

Hours
The forest park’s admission arrangements differ from operating hours for its train and activities. A park open for entry does not guarantee an evening vehicle back.
Tickets
Buy 仙女山国家森林公园 admission, then choose the park train only if useful. Snow sports, riding and other activities are not included in the ¥50 reference.
Time
A half to full day gives time for grassland, forest and a meal; weather can shorten it.
Chinese address
重庆市武隆区仙女山国家森林公园;not merely 仙女山镇游客中心
Getting there
Arrange a confirmed outward and return road ride from the town to the forest-park entrance, or use the currently offered official connection. Confirm the park’s last internal service as well.
How to visit
Take the open grassland and forest paths and pause for the wider landscape. Use the train as transport rather than spending the whole day on optional rides. In fog, stay on signed paths; in ice or a transport suspension, omit the outing.

4. Furong Cave · 芙蓉洞

Furong Cave adds an underground subject rather than another mountain viewpoint. Its lit formations reward attention to shape and texture: mineral sheets, columns and smaller deposits create a different scale from the bridges outside.

Choose this extension because caves interest you, not because it appears in the same district ticket menu. Jiangkou access uses a separate road day. An operator inspection notice showed how a cave visit can continue by a replacement shuttle while a ropeway is unavailable; only the current notice establishes the arrangement for your visit.

Hours
Confirm cave access and the access ropeway’s current status before committing to the Jiangkou drive. Maintenance of one transport product does not prove the cave itself is closed.
Tickets
Choose 芙蓉洞, checking whether access is by ropeway or an operator replacement shuttle. The Furong River boat and its transport are separate, unbudgeted choices.
Time
Give the cave and both road legs their own day; allow roughly 2 hours within the admitted cave route, plus access and waiting.
Chinese address
重庆市武隆区江口镇 · 芙蓉洞景区
Getting there
Obtain a licensed-driver quote naming hotel → 芙蓉洞 ticket entrance → hotel, waiting and any required access transfer. Do not assume the Xiannüshan valley shuttle goes there.
How to visit
Use the lit and signed cave path and compare broad hanging mineral forms with smaller formations. Do not touch them. If the cave or its only permitted access is unavailable, cancel this branch and stay with the mountain itinerary; a river boat is a different booked outing.

Choose the town base before a scenic hotel

Default: Xiannüshan town near the visitor centre. Select a road-accessible property with breakfast, dinner nearby and a confirmed way to reach the centre. It supports two different scenic mornings without moving bags. Check the actual map pin: “Fairy Mountain” can describe a wide resort area.

Inside or beside the higher forest park: choose this for a quiet forest stay if it is the main purpose, accepting extra road legs to the bridges. Wulong urban centre: works for a late rail arrival or a Jiangkou-led trip, but entails repeated mountain travel for the default stay. A cheaper urban room is not automatically a cheaper two-day visit.

Open the Chongqing accommodation search, enter three nights, one room and two adults, and move the map to 仙女山游客接待中心. Confirm the exact address, passport check-in, breakfast, room heating or cooling, cancellation and both station transfers. No named hotel or room price here has been tested.

Eat near the base, carry a walking lunch

Use a hot breakfast near the hotel before descending. Carry water and a compact lunch, or eat at an open signed service point; do not leave a gorge to seek a town restaurant halfway through the visit. Back in Xiannüshan town, allow time for a seated dinner rather than adding a distant show by default.

The operator describes 碗碗羊肉, a bowl of lamb, 泉水豆花饭, soft tofu with rice and accompaniments, and 羊角豆干, seasoned dried tofu. For two, start with a small lamb or tofu dish, a vegetable and rice. Ask whether broth, dipping sauce or vegetables contain meat and how much chilli is added. A tofu name does not establish a vegetarian meal.

If taking the Jiangkou cave extension, place lunch on that route; 江口鱼 is a fish-based local speciality, so establish the fish, bones, portion and total price before ordering. These are regional food descriptions and meal choices, not a current restaurant menu or a field visit.

Two full days, with useful longer versions

Arrival · night 1: reach the Xiannüshan-town hotel, eat nearby and establish tomorrow’s entry and return. Avoid planning a valley descent after the intercity arrival.

First full day · night 2: visit Three Natural Bridges in the morning with time for the whole signed route and lunch. Return to town for rest and dinner. If you deliberately choose to add the gorge that afternoon, resolve its cutoff and your walking capacity before buying; the default does not depend on that combination.

Second full day · night 3: make a separate forest-park outing with a confirmed return ride. If narrow karst matters more than grassland, use this day for Longshuixia instead and retain an easy afternoon. Depart the following morning with no sightseeing before the train.

Three full days · four nights: retain the same base and give Longshuixia its own third visiting morning; keep the bridges and forest days as above. This is the comfortable version for all three mountain choices.

All four choices · four full days, five nights: add a dedicated Furong Cave day with a newly quoted full road arrangement. Check cave and access status before adding the night. Do not append the cave to the departure morning.

Chongqing day trip: choose an early, fully arranged outward journey, Three Natural Bridges only, lunch and the confirmed return. If rail or road arrival leaves too little time, stay overnight or drop the scenic visit. A missed return is not solved by descending into a second gorge.

Arrive at the right station, then go up to the base

For rail, search Wulong South 武隆南 on 12306 and check the actual departure station in Chongqing, including Chongqing East 重庆东 where offered. The high-speed station opened in 2025; older instructions mentioning only Chongqing North → Wulong 武隆 describe a different rail option. Follow the station name on your ticket.

The official station release describes a 仙女山“星”旅游专线 to Xiannüshan Visitor Centre. At the staffed station transport area, confirm its present destination, fare and final departure, or use a licensed taxi / hotel-arranged driver to the actual hotel. Do not turn the release’s opening-year timetable into a permanent 2026 service promise.

At Xiannüshan Visitor Centre, use the scenic buses allocated to the bridges or gorge. For the forest park and Jiangkou cave, arrange the correct separate legs and return in advance. Save the hotel and driver’s reachable contacts and the Chinese pickup names. If a last service is missed, remain at the staffed centre and arrange a licensed ride through it or the hotel; do not walk mountain roads to chase a train.

Compare the complete ticket, not only the admission line

Use the official 武隆喀斯特旅游景区 mini program or 武隆景区 account named by the tourism authority. Select the actual date, two ordinary adults and the exact place. The operator’s ticket table lists complete references: bridges ¥155 / ¥125, gorge ¥105 / ¥85 and cave with access ropeway ¥150 / ¥135, for March–October / November–February respectively; the forest admission is ¥50. Check the live product components before paying.

The bridges reference includes ¥40 transfer and ¥45 entrance lift; the gorge includes ¥35 transfer and ¥15 lift. Do not add these again if included. The forest train, bridges exit cart, glass platform, performances and river boat are different products. A limited or membership pass is useful only if its date, identity conditions and included transport fit your actual plan.

A foreign-passport purchase was not completed. If the document field or payment fails, contact official visitor service +86 400 023 5666 using the current site and resolve the original-passport manual-ticket procedure before paying for a non-refundable dedicated transfer. Never invent a Chinese identity number. Keep the receipt and the product’s unused-ticket refund terms.

Weather and the last return can change the choice

The bridges and gorge include substantial changes of level and potentially wet stairs. An entrance lift is only one component; do not promise a step-free circuit. Anyone needing limited walking should establish the exact current accessible route with the operator before booking, or choose an appropriately confirmed forest visit instead.

Rain, flooding, ice, ropeway inspection or an official closure can override a ticket. Check the current operator notices before leaving the hotel and obtain a return that works for the open route. A historic closure is neither evidence of continuing closure nor proof that everything reopened. Keep shelter, warm layers and grip underfoot in the decision; do not enter an unofficial shortcut to complete a checklist.

A worked budget for two with complete products

For two ordinary adults sharing one room, three nights and two full days of bridges + forest, use 3R + 2A + T + M + X. Inputs: room R = ¥300; each adult’s admissions A = ¥155 + ¥50 = ¥205; T = ¥400 for both station transfers, the separate forest road legs and an allowance for selected local transport; M = ¥560 meals; X = ¥120 water and contingency. The result is ¥900 + ¥410 + ¥400 + ¥560 + ¥120 = ¥2,390 for the pair.

For the same stay with gorge instead of forest, replace the ¥50 admission by ¥105 per adult: ¥2,500 for the pair, keeping the illustrative transport allowance unchanged only if the written quote fits. The tariff components already include each valley’s listed bus and entrance lift. Do not pay them twice in the arithmetic.

For four nights and three full days with bridges, gorge and forest, use room ¥1,200, admissions 2 × (¥155 + ¥105 + ¥50) = ¥620, total local transport ¥480, meals ¥740 and contingency ¥150: ¥3,190 for the pair. For all four choices over five nights / four full days, an illustrative replacement budget is ¥1,500 rooms + ¥920 complete admissions + ¥900 total road/local transport + ¥920 meals + ¥180 contingency = ¥4,420. The ¥900 replaces the earlier transport total; it is not an extra charge on top.

Ticket figures are published adult references, not a checked transaction. Room, road, meals, visit times and contingency are editorial planning inputs: replace them with actual quotes, especially the Jiangkou return. Exclude intercity fares, guiding, optional shows, shopping, snow activities, river boat and any optional product not paid from the stated allowance.

What was checked and what remains date-specific

Sources actually read on 22 October 2026. The 2026 government register establishes the basic admissions and official booking channels; the operator table separates the transport-inclusive products. UNESCO explains the karst setting. Official descriptions support the different landscapes and regional food. The station connection is supported by an official Wulong release carried by Chongqing Daily, rather than a new live timetable test.

Current notices were read, including a short ropeway inspection example; its temporary dates are not copied into this evergreen itinerary. No foreign-passport checkout, telephone enquiry, hotel stay, local ride, meal or physical walking route was field-tested. The final opening, assigned exit, last vehicle, actual document handling and quotes belong to the dated booking.
