JIANGXI · GRANITE PINNACLES AND HIGH CLIFF WALKS

Sanqingshan Recognisable rock forms, suspended paths and a Taoist mountain setting reward a full walking day rather than a rush between cableways.

Sanqingshan is a place to look closely and then look far. A slender granite pillar becomes the Giant Python; another outcrop suggests the Eastern Goddess. Higher paths hold you beside the faces of the mountain while successive ridges appear beyond. These are sculptural peaks and walking experiences rather than a single summit to collect.

For a first visit, stay two nights near the Jinsha east cableway and keep one complete day for Nanqing Garden. Fit walkers can consider the much longer Sunshine Coast–West Coast traverse only with an early start, an authorised cross-cableway product and a road pickup at its different exit. Add a third night and another full day if Sanqing Palace is a priority. Prefer Shangrao for city services and regional connections; it is a different base with extra road travel. No version of this mountain visit is fully step-free.

Which places fit your visit?

  1. Start here1. Nanqing Garden · 南清园 · 东方女神 · 巨蟒出山

Compare the Eastern Goddess and Giant Python formations as changing angles reveal the granite shapes · Core eastern/southern peak area above Jinsha

Allow a half to full day including ascent, pauses and queues · Scenic admission plus the booked cableway; a short circuit still has stairs.

  2. Add by interest2. Sunshine Coast · 阳光海岸

Walk high beside granite walls, with ridge and forest views when clouds clear · Upper eastern/northern side of the longer cliff circuit

Part of a full mountain walking day · Within scenic admission; no separate promise of a glass-walk product.

  3. Add by interest3. West Coast · 西海岸

A suspended cliffside perspective across successive mountain ridges · Western side of the upper circuit, away from the Jinsha lower station

Combine deliberately with Sunshine Coast, leaving a full return allowance · Scenic admission; cableway descent remains a separate timed service.

  4. For a specific interest4. Sanqing Palace · 三清宫 · 三清福地

A quieter cultural landscape of Taoist buildings, stone features and wooded paths · Northern cultural branch; Gangshou is a different cableway approach

Give the palace-led route a separate full visiting day · Scenic admission and the matching cableway product; Gangshou return is separately priced.

Choose one circuit, and distinguish three cableway bases

Sanqingshan visit groups: Jinsha east cableway / Nanqing Garden: 1. Nanqing Garden: Goddess and Giant Python. Jinsha is the east cableway approach to the Nanqing choices. Waishuangxi is a separate south cableway gate, not a nearby walking connection between entrances.; Upper cliff-walk circuit: 2. Sunshine Coast, 3. West Coast. The upper cliff-walk choices are mountain walks. Select a circuit for the weather and your capacity; these boxes do not authorise a path or show operating access.; Northern cultural branch: 4. Sanqing Palace. Sanqing Palace is a northern cultural branch. Plan it as an additional choice rather than assuming it fits after every cliff walk.

1 is the named-formation visit near the Jinsha side; 2 and 3 belong to the longer upper cliff circuit; 4 is the northern cultural branch. This conceptual area diagram is not a scale map or permission to take a closed linking trail.

Jinsha 金沙 is the default east-side base. Waishuangxi 外双溪 is the separate southern cableway; Gangshou 港首 serves the northern cultural approach. A return ticket and hotel pickup must match the selected base. A cableway finishes below mountain walks, not at every sight.

The numbered places

1. Nanqing Garden · 南清园 · 东方女神 · 巨蟒出山

The point of the named formations is their changing profile. The Python looks detached and improbably narrow; the Goddess reads differently as the path changes position. Give these viewpoints time rather than measuring success by the number of map labels passed.

The southern Nanqing stair loop through Yutai and One-Line Sky is an additional physical commitment. The shorter Jinsha formation route gives a coherent first encounter without requiring that loop. Ask for the admitted short circuit at the upper station and follow its current signs.

Hours
Take an early available entry slot and obtain that day’s last downbound Jinsha service before ascending.
Tickets
The published ordinary reference is ¥120 admission plus ¥125 Jinsha return cableway. Date-specific prices and eligibility are on the actual order.
Time
The tourism account advertises a 2–3-hour small walking circuit, excluding road travel, cableway queues and your pauses. Reserve the day, not merely three hours.
Chinese address
江西省三清山风景区 · 金沙索道 → 南清园
Getting there
Use the booked Jinsha cableway, follow the admitted formation circuit and finish at the same upper station for descent.
How to visit
Prioritise the Goddess and Giant Python. At the signed route junction, keep the short return if time, fatigue or conditions make a longer circuit doubtful.

2. Sunshine Coast · 阳光海岸

Sunshine Coast changes the emphasis from a recognisable individual rock to the relationship between cliffs, forest and distant ridges. The path is part of the experience, so choose it when you want sustained walking rather than another quick photo stop.

The name does not promise sunshine, sunrise or a guaranteed cloud sea. In safe mist the close granite can still be rewarding; high wind, lightning, ice or a closure is a reason to omit the circuit.

Hours
Use only the officially open route and direction. Fog or a safety closure can remove this high walkway.
Tickets
Included in the mountain admission; the optional full traverse needs the correct cross-cableway ticket and a different lower-station pickup.
Time
The operator’s large route is advertised at 7–8 walking hours; cableways, lunch and queues require additional time. This is a demanding optional traverse.
Chinese address
江西省三清山风景区 · 阳光海岸
Getting there
The operator’s large route goes from Jinsha past Python and Goddess, via Yuhuangding to Sunshine Coast, the Sanqing cultural area and West Coast, then down at Waishuangxi.
How to visit
Use that long route only if staff confirm enough operating time, open paths and the booked cross-cableway product. Otherwise retain the Jinsha formation circuit.

3. West Coast · 西海岸

West Coast provides the broad counterpart to the eastern formations. Stop at the signed viewpoints and look across the layered landscape instead of treating the cliff walk merely as a connector.

A late sunset photograph is a poor trade for missing the final cableway. The default remains the shorter Jinsha day. A long traverse must finish its booked Waishuangxi descent in daylight, followed by the agreed car back to the Jinsha hotel.

Hours
The day’s open paths, controls and cableway return govern the plan, rather than a sunset time.
Tickets
Covered scenic paths; the optional full traverse ends with a booked Waishuangxi descent, not a Jinsha return.
Time
The west section is part of the demanding 7–8-hour advertised walking traverse, before queues and transfers.
Chinese address
江西省三清山风景区 · 西海岸
Getting there
On the operator’s long traverse, follow the open West Coast route towards Rishang and Wanshouyuan, then the signed Waishuangxi upper station and booked descent.
How to visit
Cliffside sections can look level while approach and exit involve stairs. An agreed driver at Waishuangxi must return you to the Jinsha hotel; do not assume the two bases are adjacent.

4. Sanqing Palace · 三清宫 · 三清福地

Sanqing Palace adds Taoist architecture and a quieter landscape of stone and vegetation. Choose this branch because the cultural setting interests you; it is a different visit from simply doing a longer athletic loop.

Gangshou is a third operating cableway, not another name for Jinsha or Waishuangxi. The tourism authority’s published route uses it for the Sanqing cultural side. Keep that separate approach and complete road return in the plan.

Hours
Check the palace and surrounding path access separately from a cableway merely being in service.
Tickets
Obtain a separate Gangshou return quote. It is a different product from the Jinsha return; no current Gangshou tariff was verified here.
Time
A separate full day avoids squeezing the cultural branch between long cliff walks.
Chinese address
江西省三清山风景区 · 三清宫 / 三清福地;港首索道
Getting there
For a palace-led second day, arrange a complete road return to the Gangshou lower station, then use its booked cableway and signed palace route.
How to visit
Return to Gangshou for the same-gate road pickup. Any cross-cableway route needs a permitted ticket and driver at the correct lower station, not an assumed free interchange.

Sleep at the same lower entrance you will use

Choose a Jinsha-area room for both nights, with a confirmed walk or hotel ride to 金沙索道下站. Eat near the room after descending. A property described as “Sanqingshan” may instead be beside another entrance or on the upper mountain.

Use accommodation search with 三清山金沙索道下站, two nights, one room, two adults. Check the map pin, original-passport check-in, breakfast time, cancellation and the actual station transfers. No named property or live room rate was tested. Upper-mountain accommodation is an alternative for deliberate sunrise or multi-day walking, but requires a room, luggage-carry plan and ticket-validity arrangement; it is not necessary for this first visit.

One complete mountain day, with a separate cultural extension

Arrival · night 1: reach the Jinsha hotel, eat nearby, secure the date and cableway product and agree the departure-day road pickup. Do not start a cliff circuit after the intercity journey.

Full mountain day · night 2: breakfast, early booked Jinsha ascent, then Nanqing’s Goddess and Python. Follow the admitted small circuit: Jinsha upper station → Giant Python Walkway 巨蟒栈道 → Camel Peak 神驼峰 → Giant Python → Eastern Goddess → Goddess Walkway 女神栈道 → Jinsha upper station, then descend at Jinsha. Allow unhurried stops, lunch and queues. This avoids committing to the steeper southern stair circuit.

Long-traverse alternative for strong walkers: the operator’s illustrated large route is Jinsha ascent → Python and Goddess → Yuhuangding 禹皇顶 → Sunshine Coast → Qiankun Terrace / Sanqing cultural area → Sanqing Palace → West Coast → Rishang 日上 → Wanshouyuan 万寿园 → Waishuangxi descent. It advertises 7–8 walking hours, excluding cableway queues and breaks. Confirm open paths, one-way controls, a permitted Jinsha-up/Waishuangxi-down product and the full road return from Waishuangxi to your Jinsha hotel before committing. If those conditions fail, use the short Jinsha circuit. This is not the 5–6-hour middle southern loop and not the relaxed default.

Departure morning: return by the prearranged road leg to the correct railway station. Do not reserve a tight train immediately after a last cableway descent.

Palace extension · second full day and night 3: ask for a new dated admission/cableway quote, transfer to Gangshou, visit the open Sanqing Palace route, descend at Gangshou and return by the agreed driver. A third hotel night does not itself extend the mountain ticket or buy another cableway journey.

A rail hub, a road transfer and a cableway are three legs

On 12306, compare Shangrao 上饶, Yushan South 玉山南 and Wuyuan 婺源 only against an actual road connection to your chosen base. Shangrao Sanqingshan Airport is a regional airport, not the scenic gate.

Shangrao’s scenic-bus network uses 赣悦行 Gan Yue Xing or Didi for current service information. Search the exact destination 三清山金沙索道 and date, including the return. If its timetable does not match, obtain a licensed hotel-arranged car quote for both station legs and specify the Chinese station name. No fixed historical departure or taxi fare is promised here.

Before ascending, save the hotel’s contact, establish the last downbound service and keep a margin for the queue. If the cableway stops, stay with staff at the signed service point and follow the operator’s recovery arrangement. Do not treat a long foot descent as an automatic substitute, especially when a foot approach is closed.

Book admission and the exact cableway together

Start at 三清山旅游 official WeChat account → 在途服务 → 票务中心, or 三清山智慧旅游 mini-program. Select the date, two ordinary adults, scenic admission and 金沙索道上下行. The tourism operator’s 2025 corporate disclosure lists ¥120 admission + ¥125 Jinsha return cableway = ¥245 per adult as its February–December cableway reference; the disclosure lists a ¥110 Jinsha return in January. Check the actual dated product and requote Gangshou separately. These are references, not a completed transaction or an entitlement to a promotional fare.

Do not presume a Jinsha return ticket authorises descent at another cableway. If the booking form cannot accept your original passport, contact the authority at +86 793 96373 before paying for non-refundable travel and establish its assisted purchase and checking point. Carry the matching original document and saved order. No foreign-passport checkout or gate scan was performed.

Read your order’s use date, cancellation and return terms. This guide does not assume free second-day re-entry or that one return cableway ticket covers two visits.

Eat at the base and carry the mountain lunch

Have a substantial breakfast before joining the cableway queue, carry water and a simple packed lunch, and eat dinner near the Jinsha hotel after descent. This keeps the circuit independent of finding a particular restaurant on a high path. Carry out packaging and do not leave food for wildlife.

At the base, choose rice with tofu, greens and a clearly identified chicken or fish dish; ask the price and whether chilli can be reduced before ordering. Jiangxi dishes can be strongly seasoned. Rice noodles make a practical breakfast if the shop is open early. These are ordering suggestions, not a verified restaurant menu, vegetarian-kitchen guarantee or live food quote.

Visibility and the return determine the longer circuit

Wear grippy shoes and carry a warm layer and rain protection. The shorter formation circuit remains a worthwhile visit when you cannot commit to the full cliff day. It still includes steps and exposed settings; establish suitability before buying if heights or stairs are a major constraint.

Follow 三清山旅游 current notices. The tourism authority’s last specific reopening notice read here restored the core areas and three cableways after severe weather, while retaining restrictions on the Waishuangxi foot approach and Yujing main summit. That notice is not proof that every route is now open: neither restricted branch is required by this guide. Closure, lightning or unsafe footing overrides a paid ticket.

A worked Jinsha budget for two

For two ordinary adults sharing one room, two nights and one full mountain day, calculate 2R + 2(A + C) + T + M + X. Use room R = ¥300, admission A = ¥120/person, Jinsha return cableway C = ¥125/person, complete station/local road allowance T = ¥500/pair, meals M = ¥420 and water/contingency X = ¥120. The result is ¥600 + ¥490 + ¥500 + ¥420 + ¥120 = ¥2,130 for the pair.

For an extra palace day and third night, add a ¥300 room, two new ¥120 admissions, two illustrative ¥150 Gangshou return-cableway allowances, a ¥250 extra complete road allowance, ¥180 meals and ¥50 contingency: ¥1,320 extra; ¥3,450 total. This conservatively prices a new admission rather than assuming re-entry; subtract it only after the actual order confirms coverage.

The ¥120 admission and ¥125 Jinsha cableway are published references. The ¥150 Gangshou amount is an unverified planning input, as are rooms, road travel, meals and contingency. Replace each with an actual quote; the optional cross-cableway traverse needs its own complete basket and road quote. Exclude intercity fares, guides, shopping, optional activities and upper-mountain lodging. If the actual full road quote exceeds the allowance, replace it rather than treating the difference as zero.

Sources, dates and what was not tested

Sources read on 22 October 2026. The operator parent-company’s 2025 disclosure provides published ordinary admission and Jinsha/Waishuangxi cableway components; the tourism-account route graphics distinguish walking circuits; the tourism authority’s notices establish three separate cableways, reservation channels and the boundary of the weather reopening. The route times are advertised walking estimates, not our field measurements. Historic holiday schedules and short promotions are not repeated as present offers.

Room selection, the default stay, meal plan and circuit trade-offs are editorial choices. No ticket purchase, passport verification, hotel stay, transport connection or trail was field-tested. Your dated order and current official closure notice control actual use.
