Stay in Zhangye city, give Colourful Danxia an unhurried outing, and keep time for Dafo Temple and a local meal. Two nights work with an early arrival; three are easier after a late train or for a second landscape visit. Binggou, Mati and Pingshanhu are different excursions, not names for one park.

The eight choices include short city stops and separate out-of-town trips. Select a few; completing the list is not the aim. Time budgets below are editorial estimates, not measured tour durations.
Use Zhangye city as the base; choose each park separately
Ganzhou 甘州 is the urban base for #2 and #4–6, a hotel and the railway transfer. Colourful Danxia 七彩丹霞 is the banded-hill visit about 40 km west of the city. Binggou 冰沟丹霞 is a separate westward sandstone park; Mati 马蹄石窟群 is a southward cave outing. Pingshanhu 平山湖大峡谷 has its own canyon entrance and road day.
Save the actual gate name as well as the park. Our Colourful Danxia plan uses 七彩丹霞景区北入口游客服务中心, with the same gate agreed for return. A hotel on 丹霞东路 is on a city street; it is not automatically beside the hills. 张掖西站 is the railway station, while 汽车西站 is the western bus terminal.
For the longer journey, compare Gansu and the Hexi Corridor bases. Jiayuguan and Dunhuang need their own travel blocks; they are not quick additions after a Danxia sunset.
Count usable days, then choose the nights
Two nights: with an early arrival, use that city block for #2 and a meal, keep the full middle day flexible for #1, and leave after the second night. With a late arrival, two nights give only one full day; add a third night if you want an unhurried city visit as well as the landscape.
Three nights: after a late arrival, choose one city day and one Colourful Danxia day. After an early arrival that already covers the city, you can instead use the two full days for separate parks. Four nights: allow city time plus #1 and one additional full-day outing after a late arrival. Add further nights only for a specific extra excursion, not to collect all eight entries.

Choose a real room, then arrange the park separately
Hampton by Hilton Zhangye West Railway Station / 张掖高铁西站希尔顿欢朋酒店, No. 66 Danxia East Road, is a useful first candidate for a rail-based city stay. Hilton publishes breakfast and places Zhangye West within a drive of under ten minutes. It explicitly lists no airport shuttle. This is a city hotel with a separate road trip to Danxia.
The official main page names King Superior Room and 2 Twin Beds Superior Room. In the matching Trip.com listing, the Superior Twin Room (Serta Mattress + Fresh Air System + Smart Control) has two single beds, while the Comfort Room with Double Bed lists one queen bed. Provider names differ: reserve the room on your actual booking screen, rather than assuming every superior room has the same bed.
For two friends, choose the twin category and ask the desk to confirm two separate beds. For a couple, use the named king or queen category. A sofa-bed room needs a separate answer about setup, bedding and permitted occupancy; a family-room label does not establish three ready beds. The platform currently says extra beds cannot be added. Check the total party against the selected room before paying.
Hilton publishes +86 936 692 1313 and YZYHN_Hampton@hilton.com. Trip.com lists guests from all countries and regions and a 24/7 desk. Those are published property policies, checked on 1 October 2026, rather than a successfully tested passport check-in or room for your night. Ask through the booking's message channel or the hotel contact:

For a city-hotel alternative when paid pickup matters, the existing Zhangye accommodation and Danxia-transfer guide compares Zhangye Hotel with Hampton. Use it for the fuller purchase and relocation checks. If the first property refuses your passport or cannot supply the room, ask the seller to confirm a replacement and its registration before travelling there.
Staying near the north gate can make an early start easier, but it moves dinner and the next train away from the city. Choose a particular property only after it confirms the passport, actual beds, gate access and departure transfer. With an early West-station train, keeping the city bed is usually the simpler choice.
Get from your arrival point to that bed
Zhangye West / 张掖西站
Read the station on the 12306 ticket, then follow the station's signed taxi pickup after exit. Show the hotel's Chinese name and address. Hilton's under-ten-minute driving claim is useful context, not a guarantee covering the taxi queue, station exit or holiday traffic. With luggage, make the short final ride rather than assuming a hotel named West Railway Station is beside your platform.
Zhangye / 张掖站
This is a different railway station. Send its Chinese name, train number and arrival time to anyone meeting you. Go to the signed taxi area or the exact meeting point agreed with your driver; travel to the city hotel first. A driver waiting at 张掖西站 cannot meet a ticket ending at 张掖站. The same distinction matters on departure.
Zhangye Ganzhou Airport / 张掖甘州机场 · YZY
Use your airline's actual flight date and destination. Hilton lists the airport 26 km from the property and no airport shuttle. Arrange a licensed taxi or a separately agreed hotel pickup to the hotel address. We have not verified a current airport-bus timetable or fare, so a bus should only replace that plan once the airport desk confirms today's departure, city drop-off and your final ride.
For a pickup, send 我乘[航班／车次]于[日期、时间]到达[张掖西站／张掖站／张掖甘州机场]，请确认具体会合点、总价和晚点安排。 Ask for the precise meeting point, total price and delay arrangement. Save the reply and the driver's contact before travel. Hotel pickup, a taxi and a park-day charter are three separate arrangements.
Choose the light and the ride home together
A late-afternoon ordinary visit is a useful default when you have a city bed, the park confirms enough operating time and your return driver is committed. Leave the arrival day for the city when a delayed train would make that window fragile. The hills are still the subject in daylight; a particular sunset colour is never guaranteed.
Before leaving the hotel, agree the exact park gate, your planned visiting block, return meeting point, vehicle contact, waiting charge, total and what happens if the park closes. Write 北入口进，北入口出；请确认[时间]在北入口游客服务中心接回[酒店]，含等待的总价为多少。若景区因天气关闭如何处理？ For Binggou, replace both gate names with its confirmed visitor centre.
The city's western bus terminal 汽车西站 and the railway station 张掖西站 are different places. Public services mentioned in old travel accounts are not a confirmed late-light return. We have not verified a current final public bus, fare or park pickup stop. If you want the bus, have the terminal confirm your date's departure and last return before entry; leave the park early enough for it.
If no suitable public return is established, arrange a round trip with a licensed driver through the hotel or a reputable seller, or choose an earlier daylight visit. A one-way taxi booking and the hope of finding another car after dark are not equivalent. Do not put a same-evening long-distance train after sunset unless the whole road and station buffer comfortably fits.
At the final park boarding, ask staff for the vehicle back to your own gate. Save the exit pin offline and retain a way to contact the driver. If you cannot reach the car, go to the staffed visitor centre for assistance rather than walking along an unlit road looking for it.
The eight sights in detail
1. Colourful Danxia · 七彩丹霞
The first landscape choice: coloured bands bend over broad ridges, with a different view from each platform. Choose this for colour and wide views; choose #3 for sculpted sandstone or #8 for a canyon walk. The ordinary platforms make one visit, not four separate attractions.
Hours change with the season. Use the official WeChat account 张掖七彩丹霞旅游景区 or +86 936 562 3666 to obtain your date's opening, sales cutoff and last bus to the north gate. The linked older operator notice supplies this contact, not today's hours.
Tickets and booking
RMB 70 admission + RMB 38 sightseeing bus = RMB 108 per full-paying adult before optional extras and the city transfer. Ask the official seller where an ordinary foreign passport is purchased and verified; the live checkout, discounts and passport transaction have not been tested. Deep tours and aerial activities are separate products.

Getting there
From the city, book a licensed car to the agreed north entrance and back to the same hotel. The municipal entry puts the park about 40 km west of the city. A current final public return has not been verified; use the return checklist before choosing a late visit.
Visit route
North visitor centre → passport/ticket check → the ordinary shuttle's open viewing stops → bus marked for the north gate → your booked car. Use the names 七彩云海, 七彩仙缘, 七彩锦绣 and 七彩虹霞 with staff, following today's dispatch order. Paths and steps sit between bus stops and views; ask for the shorter walking option before entry.
2. Dafo Temple · 大佛寺
The enormous reclining Buddha sits within a Western Xia hall. Its scale and enclosed setting provide a strong contrast to the open Danxia hills. Look at the relationship between figure and building, then explore the courtyards and whichever collection rooms are open.

The municipal tourism page lists 07:00–18:30; last admission and daily room access are not given. Use a morning or early afternoon and confirm through +86 936 823 3496.
Tickets and booking
Current price and passport booking are unconfirmed. Ask whether the window can issue your original ordinary-passport ticket, the full amount and final entry. The larger scenic-area description names separate city monuments; do not assume a Dafo ticket includes every one.
Walk or take a short city taxi from your Ganzhou hotel to the named entrance. Pair it with #4 at the separate city museum, then #6 for lunch; carry the Chinese address instead of asking for a generic museum.
Visit route
Ticket entrance → Buddha hall → open courtyards and collection rooms → signed exit. Follow interior photography restrictions. The scripture collection described by the city is not a promise that every manuscript is displayed.
3. Binggou Danxia · 冰沟丹霞
Come for vertical rock walls, pillars and palace-like sandstone shapes. It adds a different landscape to #1, but also a second ticket, a separate gate and more walking. With only one usable sightseeing day, keep Colourful Danxia and leave Binggou for another trip.
Hours and last entry
The Ctrip listing checked on 1 October gives 06:30–18:00 for March 26–October 31. This is platform information. Confirm actual admission cutoff, open walking areas and last internal vehicle at its listed contacts +86 936 628 0019 / 628 0022.
Tickets and booking
Buy a specifically named Binggou product. Current admission-plus-transport total and staffed passport purchase need an operator reply; the platform's RMB 25 transport reference is not a complete ticket price. Do not reuse an old two-park promotion.
Arrange a city round trip, or a driver who waits here and then takes you to #1's agreed gate. The city description places Binggou about 45 km west of Zhangye. Its park shuttle is not the transfer between the two parks.
Visit route
Visitor centre → current park vehicle → open sandstone viewpoints and walking paths → return vehicle → the same visitor centre. Ask which climbs can be omitted and where to turn back; no step-free loop has been verified.
4. Zhangye City Museum · 张掖市博物馆
The municipal museum introduction describes six chronological galleries, from prehistory to Ming–Qing Zhangye, organised around trade, farming, defence and cultural exchange. This gives the temple and corridor journey historical context and is a useful indoor choice when open.
Hours and last entry
Current regular hours, weekly closure and final entry were not established from the museum's official introduction. Check the museum's 张掖文博 channel or ask your hotel to contact the museum before making it the sole weather backup.
Tickets and booking
Ask for today's admission terms and ordinary-passport registration at 张掖市博物馆. Do not transfer the ticket or schedule of 甘州区博物馆 inside Dafo Temple to this separate museum. No current booking transaction was tested.

Getting there
Combine with #2 on foot around the Dafo cultural-square area, following signs for the city museum. From a hotel, show the full museum name and this address to the driver.
Visit route
Public entrance → identity/security check → the chronological permanent galleries → same exit. Focus on the periods that explain your next corridor stop; treat temporary exhibitions as additions only after confirming they are open.
5. Muta Square · 木塔广场
Use the wooden pagoda's stacked eaves as a short city landmark between a museum and a meal. The value is an easy exterior view and everyday square life; it does not justify displacing a temple visit or adding another hotel night.
Hours and last entry
Plan an ordinary daylight square walk. Current tower opening and climbing access are unconfirmed; the stop here promises only an exterior view from a permitted public area.
Tickets and booking
No tower-entry or museum ticket is included in this plan. If a controlled entrance or event blocks the public space, follow the signs and continue to the city meal; do not buy an interior product merely to complete the list.

木塔广场（木塔寺外公共广场）· 甘肃省张掖市甘州区；check the precise street entrance. The platform description places it west of the Xianfu Street central square, but an official street address was not confirmed. Show 木塔广场 to your hotel and save its current pedestrian-access pin.
Getting there
Make this a short walk within the centre after #2 or #4, once the hotel has identified the pedestrian approach. It is the Zhangye landmark, not the similarly named Muta Temple in Xi'an.
Visit route
Signed public-square access → exterior view of the pagoda and eaves → surrounding pedestrian streets → meal or hotel. Keep any tower climb outside this plan until its own access is confirmed.
6. Ganzhou Market · 甘州市场
This is a practical lunch stop where you can inspect portions and ingredients before ordering. The market was rebuilt and reopened in 2024; its new courtyard frontage is part of a working commercial place, not untouched Silk Road architecture.
Hours and last entry
There is no single verified opening schedule for all vendors. Aim for a meal period and choose an operating stall; a reopening report does not guarantee tonight's vendor or performance.
Tickets and booking
This visit is a walk and a meal rather than a sightseeing ticket. Ask the price and portion before ordering. For food restrictions, ask about stock and seasoning as well as visible meat; use the Chinese dish and ingredient phrases.
Walk or take a city taxi from the Dafo / Xianfu Street area, using 甘州市场 as the destination. Agree a named entrance for pickup instead of expecting the driver to enter the market lanes.
Visit route
Market entrance → look at a few operating stalls → one noodle dish or local snack → courtyard walk → same agreed exit. A city-market lunch pairs well with #2; after a park day, one evening food district is enough.
7. Mati Temple caves · 马蹄石窟群
Choose Mati for cliff architecture and the stepped Thirty-three Heavens route, rather than another view of striped hills. It is the stronger extension for cave interest; the confined stair passages can also make it the least suitable choice for someone avoiding climbs.

Current hours, final cave entry and open chambers require the operator. Its full site could not be read reliably during this check. Ask your hotel for a current operator response before booking the vehicle.

Ask which package includes 千佛洞 and 北寺三十三天, whether a shuttle is extra, and how an ordinary foreign passport is processed. A description of the seven cave groups does not mean every group is included or independently accessible. No current total is quoted.

Getting there
Use a confirmed city round trip with waiting time and a return meeting point. The city places the caves about 65 km south of Zhangye; keep this a different outing from the westward Danxia parks.
Visit route
Visitor centre and product check → the confirmed open cave groups, including Qianfo / north temple only if included → same agreed pickup. Ask about a lower-area alternative before attempting the stepped passages. Do not add Jinta Temple on the assumption it is covered by the ordinary ticket.
8. Pingshanhu Grand Canyon · 平山湖大峡谷
This is the choice for red-rock canyon depth and a more active outing. The municipal description distinguishes ridge views from walking down into the canyon. It adds something different from #1's viewpoint shuttle, but is an alternative extra day, not a quick stop between two Danxia parks.

The official tourism description does not give current operating hours or a last safe descent. Get the date's admission window, open canyon route and return-vehicle time from the operator through your hotel or named ticket seller.

Before paying, ask what the ordinary ticket includes, whether internal transport is mandatory or extra, how passport admission works, and what the more intensive product adds. Current total and route availability are unverified here; skip this extension if those answers are missing.

平山湖大峡谷（游客接待入口）· 甘肃省张掖市甘州区；check the exact street / entrance pin. The city entry establishes the canyon about 56 km from Zhangye, but does not supply a visitor-centre street address. Have the seller send the actual entry pin, not a city sales-office pin.
Getting there
Book a dedicated return car to the confirmed visitor entrance and back to the city. Allow the whole day and avoid placing a fixed onward train immediately after the canyon visit.
Visit route
Visitor centre → current internal transport → permitted rim viewpoints → canyon descent only after staff confirm the open exit and your walking ability → return transport and booked car. Carry water and follow closures; a rim-only visit should be agreed before buying if stairs or heights are a concern.
Eat Zhangye: breakfast soup, hand-rolled noodles and a market dinner
After a city walk, choose #6 Ganzhou Market. For another evening, the municipal report names Mingqing Street 明清街 and Liangji Shandan Chaobola 梁记山丹炒拨拉店; Ganzhou Fucheng 甘州府城 is a separate commercial night precinct. Choose one, and confirm any paid show directly rather than relying on a seasonal news programme.
The city meal is part of the visit. Wheat-based local food gives Zhangye a different rhythm from the view platforms: breakfast in a small shop, a hand-rolled noodle lunch and an evening stall meal. The Commerce Bureau's local food list names Ganzhou saomian, cuoyuzi and beef xiaofan; choose the actual dish on the menu rather than a generic northwestern set meal.
Ganzhou saomian 甘州臊面: a breakfast noodle soup. The local-history description describes thin noodles and a thickened broth, with tofu and varying meat-stock bases. Order 臊面一碗，辣椒另放 — one bowl, chilli separately. Ask what the stock contains if meat ingredients matter.
Beef xiaofan 牛肉小饭: despite the word fan, this is small wheat-dough pieces in beef broth rather than rice. The Commerce Bureau's June 2026 account describes dough squares with starch sheets, tofu and beef. Order 牛肉小饭一碗，不加香菜 if you want one bowl without coriander.
Cuoyuzi 搓鱼子: hand-rolled, fish-shaped dough pieces, not fish. The local-history source describes different flours and soup or dry preparations. Ask 搓鱼子是炒的还是汤的？用什么面粉？ — fried or in soup, and which flour? Choose the cooking style you actually want.
Shandan chaobola 山丹炒拨拉: choose it when you want the hot-griddle dish. Liangji on Mingqing Street is named in the city's recent report. Ask what meat and offal the version contains, the portion size and the price before ordering; it is a poor blind choice if you avoid organ meat.
Where to start: Ganzhou Market for a visible lunch choice, or Liangji Shandan Chaobola on Mingqing Street for a named evening candidate. We have not eaten at these venues or checked today's menu, price or opening. A published vendor name helps you find a real place; it does not guarantee a table or a particular version of a dish.
For a group sharing a larger meal, the bureau's list also names chicken with steamed dough rolls, 土鸡焖卷子, and lamb dishes. Ask how large the portion is before ordering both. For a simpler park-day plan, eat before departure and carry drinking water plus a snack rather than building the return around an unverified roadside restaurant.
我不能吃[成分]，汤底和调料里有吗？请不要放辣椒。 — I cannot eat [ingredient]; is it in the broth or seasoning? Please leave out chilli. Removing meat from the surface does not establish a vegetarian broth. For a serious allergy, get an ingredient and preparation answer you can rely on; if the stall cannot give one, choose another meal.
Adjust for weather, walking and a shorter stay
Wind, rain or a closure: ask each operator about its open route before paying for a car. Stay on permitted paths and follow staff instructions; wet or closed sections are not an opportunity to walk onto the coloured hills. Move the landscape block to a better day if you have one. Dafo and a city meal can fill part of a changed day if the temple is open, but the exposed square and market walk are not an all-weather indoor substitute.
Hot, exposed daylight: carry water, sun protection and a layer for the return. An afternoon plan should be timed from the current sales cutoff and full ordinary route, not just the hour a photograph looks attractive. Spend less time at an earlier viewpoint if necessary to keep the confirmed return; do not wait for an unpromised aerial activity.
Cold or winter dates: daylight and operating windows become a tighter part of the decision. Confirm opening, internal buses and road return anew. The operator's old next-day admission notice does not establish that you can buy one ticket now and return tomorrow on the same terms.
Less walking: start with Dafo and the ordinary Colourful Danxia shuttle visit only after staff explain accessible viewpoints. Binggou's uphill walks and Mati's stepped cave passages are decisions to make before travel. No site inspection or step-free route test has been performed for this guide.
Only one usable day: choose Colourful Danxia plus a city meal. Add Dafo only if entry and transport allow an unhurried city morning. Remove Binggou, Mati and a second evening venue first. If the outdoor park is closed, take the city day and recognise that the main landscape experience remains unfulfilled.
Leave from the station on the ticket
Before choosing the final hotel night, search 12306 for the exact date, station and available seat to your next base. Zhangye West and Zhangye station are not interchangeable. Jiayuguan, Dunhuang and an eastbound gateway may use different station pairs or a connection; read the actual arrival station as well as the city name.
For a West-station departure from the suggested hotel, plan to leave the hotel about 75–90 minutes before the train as a conservative editorial starting buffer, then extend it for queues, road conditions or a passport requiring staffed assistance. Add the actual longer drive for a departure from Zhangye station or a park-side hotel. This is planning advice, not a railway minimum or measured door-to-platform time.
Bring the original passport associated with the train booking. If an automatic gate cannot read it, follow the staffed verification channel. Settle checkout, breakfast and the car the evening before an early train; do not spend the station buffer searching for a ride or retrieving luggage from a different hotel.
If ending by air, use the airline's own airport arrival requirement and the hotel's current road estimate. A city-to-airport trip is separate from the hotel's park-day car. Keep a weather-affected Danxia visit away from a fixed flight departure when losing the flight would damage the rest of your corridor trip.

Before paying, resolve your exact passport product, room, gate, final entry, return and cancellation conditions through the named hotel, operator or seller. An unresolved optional extension can be removed. An unresolved return from the main park changes the day's plan.
