Qufu: Confucius and his city曲阜 · 孔庙、孔府与孔林

Two nights in the old city protect a full heritage day: walk between #1 Temple and #2 Mansion, then ride north to #3 Cemetery. Book morning admission first.

Eight places at a glance

Choose the places that match your interests. These eight are alternatives across a stay, not a one-day checklist. Visit lengths are planning allowances; transport, queues and meals need extra time.

Must-see for a mixed first visit

Start with the Temple and Mansion. Add the Cemetery when time and walking energy allow.

  1. 1. Confucius Temple · 孔庙

    The ritual and architectural core

    Area
    Southern old-city approach
    Time
    2–3 h inside
    Entry
Adult single CNY 80; dated morning product and passport check
  2. 2. Kong Family Mansion · 孔府

    Official work and family rooms

    Area
    East of the Temple
    Time
    1–1½ h
    Entry
Adult single CNY 60, or a valid combo
  3. 3. Confucius Cemetery · 孔林

    Tombs, stone memorials and trees

    Area
    North of the old city
    Time
1½–2 h inside, plus city transfers
    Entry
Adult single CNY 10, or a valid combo; vehicle extra check

Worth a visit when time and interests fit

Choose objects, a pupil’s memorial or a relaxed street walk around the main heritage block.

  1. 4. Confucius Museum · 孔子博物馆

Objects and ideas behind the courtyards

    Area
    South of the old city
    Time
About 2 h, plus both road legs
    Entry
Free general admission; individuals need no reservation under the regular notice. Foreign-passport entry: check.
  2. 5. Yan Temple · 颜庙

Confucius’ pupil Yan Hui and his memorial courts

    Area
Northern old city · Yan Temple Street
    Time
    45–75 min
    Entry
Free admission in city tariff; current hours and ID check
  3. 6. Old-city streets · 阙里街、鼓楼大街与五马祠街

Calligraphy browsing, snacks and a slower evening

    Area
    Temple/Mansion walking neighbourhood
    Time
45–90 min, with a seated break
    Entry
Public-street walk; purchases and interiors separate

If you have time or a specific interest

Two different reasons to extend the stay: older ritual history or modern performance.

  1. 7. Duke of Zhou Temple · 周公庙

    Ritual roots before Confucius

    Area
    Lucheng · Zhougongmiao community
    Time
    45–75 min, plus road legs
    Entry
Free admission in city tariff; current hours and ID check
  2. 8. Nishan Sacred Land · 尼山圣境

Modern monumental spaces and staged culture

    Area
    Nishan, southeast of Qufu
    Time
    Half-to-full day including road legs
    Entry
Separate dated admission; show package and return check

Three places, three experiences

Qufu rewards an interest in how a teacher's influence became an institution. At Confucius Temple / 孔庙, repeated gates and grand halls show public reverence. At Kong Family Mansion / 孔府, official work and domestic life occupied the same compound. At Confucius Cemetery / 孔林, often translated as Kong Forest, graves carry the family story across generations. Together they form the UNESCO heritage property, called San Kong / 三孔 locally.

Use the Ming old city as your centre. Approach the Temple from its southern side, around Confucius Temple South Gate / 孔庙南门; the Mansion lies east of the Temple and has a separate entrance. The Cemetery is north of the old city, beyond the northern approach avenue. A combined ticket joins admission, not the sites into one enclosure. Keep their Chinese names saved for a driver and distinguish a ticket office from the actual admission gate.

Qufu suits a slower cultural stop between rail journeys. Someone chiefly looking for dramatic mountain scenery or nightlife may prefer another base. Use the Shandong route guide to compare Qufu's heritage stay with Jinan and Mount Tai or Qingdao's coast; each choice needs its own usable days.

Choose nights by the time you can actually use

Two nights are the comfortable first visit. Arrive, put luggage in the room and walk the old-city streets. Start the next morning with the Temple, continue to the Mansion, have lunch and a seated rest, then make the Cemetery a separate afternoon outing if daylight, entry and your legs allow. Leave the following day. Our planning allowances are 2–3 hours at the Temple, 1–1½ at the Mansion and 1½–2 at the Cemetery, plus transfers, food and queues; they are time to look, rather than official tour durations.

For that full heritage day, secure usable adult morning admission through the operator, your hotel or your chosen supplier before fixing the plan. The adult combo actually read on Qunar starts at 12:30, so it does not support a morning Temple visit. If no adult morning combo is confirmed, use the listed morning Temple-only adult product and separately valid Mansion and Cemetery tickets, with the passport route settled. Establish each site's last entry before starting. Keep the Cemetery on that day unless your issued ticket expressly permits the following day; otherwise a later visit needs separate admission. A permitted next-morning visit gives a gentler pace, with a separate return to the hotel for luggage.

Choice and timePlan and conditions
One night:

use an early enough arrival or late enough departure for the Temple and Mansion. An evening arrival followed by a morning train gives a street walk, not a complete Three Kong visit. Drop the Cemetery before turning the core sites into a dash.

Two nights:

keep the full middle day for the three sites. For children, slower walkers or heavy rain, keep Temple and Mansion and spend the afternoon resting or at an admitted museum; another night is better than forcing all three.

Three nights:

separate the Cemetery and Confucius Museum from the Temple/Mansion day, or give Nishan its own day. Choose which extra experience matters; all of them together create another busy programme.

A guide earns their cost here when you want to understand inscriptions, official ranks and ritual rather than simply see courtyards. Agree the language, sites, pace and gate meeting point before booking. An English guide is a separately selected service, and a guide booking by itself does not secure admission.

Combine places by their location and effort

Choice and timePlan and conditions
Central heritage + evening streets:

#1 → #2 → lunch and rest → #6. Allow 3–4½ hours inside the two paid sites, plus the connecting walk, queues and meal. This is the easiest shorter first visit.

Full Three Kong:

#1 → #2 → seated lunch → car to #3 → car back to the hotel. The site visits total roughly 4½–6½ hours; reserve extra time for queues and both road legs. Drop #3 when the last entry or stamina will not fit.

A slower northern outing:

#5 → car to #3 → hotel, only if both opening windows work. Keep #3 first when its gate time is tighter. This suits an extra usable period, not an add-on after a long heritage day.

Indoor context or a performance day:

#4 plus a hotel rest is the lighter choice. #8 needs its own half-to-full day and booked return. #7 is a separate short heritage detour when early ritual history interests you.

Sleep beside the heritage sites or on Chunqiu Road

Queli Hotel / 阙里宾舍: the old-city choice

No. 1 Queli Street / 阙里街1号. Choose this courtyard-style hotel for the Temple/Mansion side of the visit and an easy return between walks. The public room listing shows a Confucian Double Bed Room with one queen bed, 22 m², and a Family Room with one queen plus one single bed, 45 m². Select your dates and guest party to check availability for these specific bed arrangements. Two people wanting separate beds can ask about the listed Smart Connected Room, which is described as two single beds in 25 m²; its name alone does not establish two connecting bedrooms.

This base prioritises location and a courtyard setting over a new tower hotel. Send the property the number of adults and children and request the exact category, bed arrangement and access to your floor. The listed rooms are on the first or second floor; ask about stairs or a ground-floor room if carrying luggage or using a mobility aid. Arrange the station ride to the hotel entrance, not just to “San Kong”.

Shangri-La Qufu / 曲阜香格里拉: a fuller hotel base

No. 3 Chunqiu Road / 春秋路3号. Choose it for a larger hotel, a restaurant on site and a planned station pickup. The operator publishes a Deluxe Room of about 42 m² and connecting-room categories. Its English seller listing identifies a Deluxe Twin Room with two single beds and a Deluxe Queen Room described as one king bed, both 40–42 m². Select the actual bed field rather than interpreting “Queen” literally. For three, the listed Deluxe Family King Bed Room adds an adult single bed to a king; for four, compare two rooms with a confirmed connecting arrangement.

The hotel quotes about a 15-minute walk to the Temple/Mansion and a 15-minute taxi ride from Qufu East. Treat those as its estimates, with longer time in heat, traffic or crowds. Its complimentary Qufu East pickup requires booking at least one day ahead with train details. Contact +86 537 505 8888 or slqf@shangri-la.com for the exact meeting place and confirmation.

For either hotel, search dates and all guests before comparing the final total, breakfast, cancellation deadline and deposit. Carry every guest's original passport and ask the property to confirm registration for your party; a room advertisement is not a completed check-in. An outer station hotel makes sense for a very early train, but costs you city transfers for each heritage visit.

Buy the right product and settle the passport route

The Qunar listing read on 1 October 2026 displays the Three Kong adult admission ticket / 曲阜三孔景区门票成人票, 12:30–16:30 entry at CNY 140. It names Temple, Mansion and Cemetery as the three inclusions and separately lists adult Temple CNY 80, Mansion CNY 60 and Cemetery CNY 10. The combo saves CNY 10 against all three listed single tickets; Temple and Mansion alone also total CNY 140. Its afternoon entry window does not establish morning admission or the time of final entry at every gate. The displayed 08:00–12:30 combo is a children's product, not evidence of an adult morning combo.

  • A full heritage day with a combo: have the operator, hotel or chosen supplier identify a usable adult morning reservation and its actual product terms before payment. Until that is confirmed, keep it as a planning choice rather than buy the displayed afternoon ticket expecting a whole day.
  • A morning start with separate tickets: the same listing displays adult Temple-only admission, 08:00–12:30, CNY 80. Confirm that product's passport route, then obtain separately valid Mansion and Cemetery admission for the times you intend to enter. Their posted CNY 60 and CNY 10 make the listed three-ticket total CNY 150. This is the evidenced morning Temple option; it still needs dated availability and passport confirmation.
  • An afternoon visit: plan the Temple or Mansion as the main visit, adding only what fits the actual time and each gate's last entry. Compare the displayed afternoon combo with admission for the sites you can use; do not make a rushed afternoon at all three the standard plan. Unfinished visits need separate tickets, or a later day expressly permitted by the issued ticket, and enough additional time in Qufu.

For an ordinary foreign passport, the admission channel still needs a specific confirmation. The readable listing did not expose its passport selector or the gate's manual-verification procedure. The relic operator's notices could not be retrieved during this check. We therefore cannot confirm that the displayed adult products can be paid for and validated with your passport, or that its ticket lasts two or three days. Buy a regular adult product unless the operator confirms that a particular concession applies to your nationality and document.

  1. Contact the Three Kong visitor service through the local tourism authority's listed number, +86 537 441 2444, before fixing a non-refundable visit. Ask for the date's open gates, final entry at each site, the foreign-passport reservation channel and the staffed ticket/validation location. Your hotel can help make this call.
  2. Give the actual visit date and sites and explain that you hold an ordinary foreign passport. A useful message is 我持外国普通护照,想在[日期]参观孔庙、孔府和孔林。请问从哪里预约或购票?护照在哪里人工核验?联票有效期多久? — “I have an ordinary foreign passport and want to visit the Temple, Mansion and Cemetery on [date]. Where do I reserve or buy, where is my passport checked manually, and how long is the combo valid?”
  3. If staff direct you online, select Passport / 护照 and the stated adult ticket and date; match each traveller's name and document to the original passport. A form that accepts only a mainland identity-card number needs another channel. Keep the issued ticket and the seller's validation instructions, then use the staff-designated entrance with the same original passport.
  4. If staff offer a counter route, establish whether they can reserve the date in advance, which official window to visit, what payment it takes and the collection deadline. Take the original passport, the confirmation and the agreed means of payment. Counter stock and passport scanning have not been tested here.

For English assistance, a concrete alternative is Unique Beijing Tours' Qufu walking tour, Viator product 19099P176. The product lists English, a private guide and entry at all three sites, for approximately 4–6 hours. Before paying, ask the supplier to confirm ordinary-passport admission for everyone, the exact hotel or station pickup and the Cemetery transfer. Confirm with the supplier whether hotel drop-off and the return vehicle fare are included in your actual quote; if they are not, arrange the return ride before the tour begins. This is a guided package with a date-specific quote, not a CNY 140 admission-only substitute. Neither its stock nor a passport transaction was tested.

A paid guide, audio guide, learning ceremony or photograph package can be sold beside admission. Read the inclusion line rather than assuming it provides the Three Kong ticket or bypasses a queue. Keep the official visitor notices as the place to recheck access changes; a ceremony or maintenance closure can affect your intended day.

Arrive at the station written on your ticket

Qufu East / 曲阜东: the high-speed gateway

Search the precise station on China Railway 12306, then reserve the hotel and the final road leg. At Qufu East, use the official taxi queue after exiting, show the hotel's Chinese name and address, and ask for its actual vehicle entrance. At Queli Hotel the request is 阙里宾舍,阙里街1号; at Shangri-La it is 曲阜香格里拉,春秋路3号. Keep luggage with you until the driver and destination agree. The ride ends at reception, where you register and obtain the room.

For Shangri-La's booked pickup, send the train number and arrival time at least a day ahead and save the confirmed meeting point. The operator publishes this as a Qufu East service. Do not assume it covers the conventional station, every arrival time or the reverse ride without asking. A delayed train should prompt a message to the hotel while you still have a connection.

The transport operator's April 2026 stop list provides a lower-cost option: K01 serves the high-speed station, Visitor Centre / 游客中心 and Confucius Temple South Gate / 孔庙南门 on its city route. At the bus bay, ask for the direction towards 孔庙南门 and verify the current service on the stop sign. From the stop, the final walk or short ride to your hotel is still yours to arrange. For an unfamiliar arrival after dark, luggage or a child asleep, the taxi or confirmed pickup is the simpler complete chain.

Qufu Station / 曲阜站: a separate conventional railway arrival

Book a road pickup or use the station taxi queue with the same hotel address. Tell the hotel Qufu Station / 曲阜火车站, not Qufu East / 曲阜东站. The museum's official transport page describes K05 from this station to Sports Park, then a change to route 1 for the museum; that is a two-bus museum journey, not a direct hotel transfer. For a first visit, a single road ride to reception avoids an unnecessary interchange.

Qufu is usually a rail stay rather than an airport base. If your itinerary starts with a Jinan or Jining flight, choose the current airport and its onward connection explicitly. A flight to the region does not include a Qufu transfer; arrange the whole airport-to-station or airport-to-hotel journey before paying for the short stay.

1. Confucius Temple: walk through a landscape of reverence

The Temple is the most substantial first visit. Enter from the southern approach specified on your ticket and follow the great axis north. Pauses at Kuiwen Pavilion / 奎文阁, the stelae and Apricot Altar / 杏坛 help the approach to Dacheng Hall / 大成殿 make sense: a small memorial grew into a carefully ordered ceremonial complex. The hall's dragon-carved stone columns and the inscriptions reward looking slowly rather than moving with the quickest tour group.

Hours
Use the booked entry period and the operator notice for last entry. The seller listing checked on 1 October 2026 offered an adult Temple-only 08:00–12:30 product; that window is not a statement of the site’s full opening hours.
Tickets
Published adult single CNY 80. The listed CNY 140 combo has an afternoon slot; for a full heritage day secure a confirmed morning product. See the ticket and passport choices before paying.
Time
2–3 h inside (editorial allowance)
Address
孔庙(南门,实际检票口依票面指引)· 山东省曲阜市明故城南侧孔庙南门(门牌 check)。The city bus operator names this south-gate stop; confirm the final validation desk with +86 537 441 2444. The general Three Kong office address is not a substitute for this gate.
Getting there
From the old-city hotel walk to 孔庙南门; from Qufu East use a taxi or the current K01 direction serving that stop. Keep luggage at the hotel and the original passport with you.
How to visit
Confirmed south entrance → central courts → Kuiwen Pavilion → Apricot Altar → Dacheng Hall → an open western branch if time allows → signed exit toward #2. Let the exit signs determine the final turn to the Mansion.

Pay attention to the scale changes between gates, trees and courts. A guide can interpret imperial titles and inscriptions; a short visit without one should still leave time to look at the stone carving and read the site labels. Keep hands off carved surfaces and follow current indoor photography signs. Visiting durations here are our estimates, not a promise that every hall is accessible.

The western route opened to the public in April 2025, adding the ancestral and ritual-music side of the story around Qisheng Gate, Jinsi Hall and Qisheng King Hall. It belongs to the Temple visit rather than another attraction ticket in this guide. Ask which sections are open on your date; bell displays or a musical programme need their own current notice, and are not guaranteed at a particular hour.

Allow 2–3 hours. Aim for confirmed morning admission and keep the Mansion for the same central block. If time is tight, retain the central processional route and Dacheng Hall, then choose one extra branch. Buy Temple-only admission when that is the only site you intend to enter; a view of its outer wall is a different experience.

2. Kong Family Mansion: status, official work and a household

Hours
Check the Mansion’s own last admission with the operator when arranging #1. A Temple entry window does not guarantee admission here later.
Tickets
Published adult single CNY 60, or a combo valid for your entry. Keep the same original passport and issued ticket for the separate gate; manual passport validation remains a pre-visit check.
Time
1–1½ h (editorial allowance)
Address
孔府(正门)· 山东省曲阜市鼓楼西街(近阙里街)。This is the seller’s location; official gate street/number check with Three Kong visitor service before a car drop-off.
Getting there
Walk from the signed Temple exit to the Mansion’s separate entrance east of the Temple. This is the same old-city walking block, not another station transfer.
How to visit
Front official courts → domestic rooms open that day → rear garden when accessible → signed exit → lunch around #6. Choose #4 later for collections and interpretation.

Walk to the Mansion's separate entrance on the Temple's east side. The hereditary descendants of Confucius lived and worked here; its significance is the combination of office and residence, rather than another place to worship. Compare the more formal front courts with the domestic rooms further inside. The boundary between public duties and private family space gives the visit a useful thread.

Follow the current signed route through the compound and towards the rear garden where access permits. Read room labels and displays as evidence of how the household ran. The Mansion's historic collections do not mean every object in those collections is displayed in the room you enter; the Confucius Museum is the better additional stop for an object-focused visit.

Allow 1–1½ hours, then lunch. This is the easiest second site after the Temple because the move stays in the old-city block. There is a new ticket check at its gate, even with a combo. Carry the same ticket and original document, following the validation route the operator has confirmed for you. With a short first visit, this pair offers two clear stories without the Cemetery's extra journey.

3. Confucius Cemetery: a clan's history across a wooded burial ground

Hours
Confirm this gate’s last entry before leaving the old city. Keep daylight for the tomb circuit and the return; a late Temple slot does not establish enough Cemetery time.
Tickets
Published adult single CNY 10, or a currently valid combo. Internal vehicle availability and inclusions need a gate check. Do not assume the ticket permits a later day.
Time
1½–2 h inside, plus city transfers (editorial allowance)
Address
孔林(南门)· 山东省曲阜市林道路与林门路交汇处(map platform pin;official gate address check)。Save this northern gate separately from 孔庙南门.
Getting there
Take a taxi or booked local car to 孔林南门 and agree the same gate’s return pickup. Walking the entire northern approach adds distance before the burial-ground circuit.
How to visit
Signed south entry → ceremonial approach and stone figures → Confucius’ tomb → a manageable open family-grave loop → signed exit → agreed gate pickup → hotel. Stay off graves and memorial stones.

Kong Forest / 孔林 is a cemetery. Confucius' tomb is the focal point, but the experience also includes generations of family graves, inscribed stones, memorial structures and mature trees. The local cultural authority records more than 100,000 tombs and stone figures of people and animals. This is a different encounter with the heritage from the Temple's ritual courts or the Mansion's domestic interiors.

Arrange a taxi or booked local vehicle to the Cemetery entrance / 孔林入口, north of the city, and agree a return pickup at a named meeting point. For the full approach on foot, start from the northern old-city side and follow the signed northern approach towards Linmen Road / 林门路 and the ceremonial avenue. That adds pavement and approach walking before the burial-ground visit; use a road ride if you want to save your energy for the interior.

Inside, follow the signed route to Confucius' tomb and take time with the stone memorials along the approach. Looking at the surrounding family graves makes the scale of the clan's history tangible. Paths branch across a large site; choose a manageable loop rather than treating every corner as required. Keep a quiet manner, stay off graves and memorial stones, and treat any family visitors with respect.

Allow 1½–2 hours on foot plus the city transfer. Ask at the official entrance whether an internal vehicle is running, which stops it serves and whether it is extra. An admission combo does not establish shuttle inclusion. For limited stamina, confirm the vehicle and the remaining walk to the tomb before entering. After a long Temple/Mansion morning, a seated lunch and a ride are better than adding the entire approach avenue by default.

Save the return instructions before walking away from the gate. If daylight, entry time or weather is running short, keep this for a separately ticketed visit or a later permitted day. It cannot be replaced by a quick walk through an ordinary city park.

4. Confucius Museum: add objects and context to the architecture

Hours
Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00; last admission 16:00. Closed Mondays except statutory holidays. Check the museum’s current notice for date-specific changes.
Tickets
The regular-operation notice lists free general admission without individual reservations; groups book through the museum’s official WeChat account. Foreign-passport entry: check with +86 537 445 9088 before travelling. Ask where staff check the original passport and whether advance registration is needed.
Time
About 2 h, plus both road legs (editorial allowance)
Address
孔子博物馆(北门或东门,以当日入馆指引为准)· 山东省曲阜市孔子大道100号(operator address and entrances)。
Getting there
Take a taxi from the old-city hotel to the confirmed north or east entrance. The museum’s transport page lists both; arrange a return to the hotel so stored bags and the station ride remain a separate chain.
How to visit
Staffed identity check → permanent Confucius story and Kong-household collections → one open temporary gallery if wanted → the agreed exit → hotel. Objects displayed vary; general entry is separate from a booked ritual-music performance.

The Confucius Museum / 孔子博物馆 is a separate modern museum at 100 Kongzi Avenue / 孔子大道100号, south of the old-city visits. Its permanent displays cover Confucius' time and ideas, then the Kong household's legacy. Choose it for objects, documents and interpretation when the stone courtyards leave you wanting the human story. Allow about two hours and a road ride each way; keep the return destination as your hotel rather than improvising a train connection from the museum.

Use the regular Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–17:00 schedule, arriving before 16:00; Mondays are closed except statutory holidays. The regular-operation announcement, effective 1 September 2026, lists free general admission without individual reservations and advance WeChat booking for groups. Its valid-document wording does not explain the foreign-passport check. Before leaving your hotel, call +86 537 445 9088 to confirm the required registration and staff check point; take your original passport.

Performances and activities follow their own dated notices. Confirm any separate booking before planning around one. The museum’s transport guide identifies north and east entrances; arrange a taxi to the entrance confirmed for your visit and a return to the same hotel.

5. Yan Temple: the pupil’s place in Qufu

Hours
Day-specific hours and last entry check. Ask Three Kong visitor service which Yan Temple gate is open before adding it to the Cemetery journey; the heritage listing does not publish a current timetable.
Tickets
The municipal tariff lists Yan Temple as free. Free admission does not establish unstaffed or round-the-clock entry: check any current registration requirement and carry the original passport.
Time
45–75 min (editorial allowance)
Address
颜庙(当日游客入口)· 山东省曲阜市颜庙街西首、陋巷街北端,明故城北门内路东(cultural authority location)。
Getting there
Walk north through the old city to 颜庙街; take a short taxi if the Temple/Mansion visit has used your walking energy. Treat the onward Cemetery car leg as separate.
How to visit
Signed visitor gate → open central courtyard sequence → main hall and available displays about Yan Hui → same signed exit → old-city rest or the agreed car to #3. Keep the Cemetery first when its entry window is tighter.

Yan Hui was one of Confucius’ most celebrated pupils. The local cultural authority identifies this as his memorial temple, also called Fusheng Temple / 复圣庙, with five successive courtyards and surviving Yuan, Ming and Qing structures. It gives the teacher–pupil relationship a physical setting, while #1 concentrates on honours paid to Confucius himself.

Choose it when you enjoy comparing court layouts and the way different people are commemorated. Give the open central sequence time, look at the changing scale of the gates and halls, and use the labels for Yan Hui’s story. It is a compact additional temple visit, not an essential replacement for the main Temple. With a tired child or limited walking, keep the old-city meal and rest instead.

6. Old-city streets: Qufu between the monuments

Hours
Use daylight for the first orientation walk and an early evening for food. Individual shop hours vary; wall-top access and indoor venues have separate closing times.
Tickets
This suggestion follows ordinary public streets, without a bundled sightseeing ticket. Buy food or goods individually from businesses showing a menu or price; no booked tour or performance is required.
Time
45–90 min, with a seated break (editorial allowance)
Address
阙里街(阙里宾舍外公共街道起点)· 山东省曲阜市阙里街1号外(official hotel locator)。Continue towards 鼓楼大街 and 五马祠街; the hotel itself is not a public attraction.
Getting there
Start outside Queli Hotel after #2 or walk here from the old-city base. Save the hotel’s own entrance for the return rather than a generic Three Kong pin.
How to visit
Queli Street’s calligraphy and souvenir shops → Drum Tower Street → an open snack or tea stop around Wumaci Street → hotel. Shorten at any point; the streets are one flexible walk, not three compulsory sights.

Use Queli Street / 阙里街 for the transition between your hotel, the Temple/Mansion area and a meal. Around Drum Tower Street / 鼓楼大街 and Wumaci Street / 五马祠街, leave time for shopfronts, a tea stop and everyday food. The city's tourism authority identifies the latter two as evening commercial streets. Their value is a less formal pause after the monumental courts, not a fourth ticketed heritage site.

Keep this walk short on arrival: find the hotel door, the next morning's approach and somewhere to eat. Return in the early evening when you want a snack or browse. Individual shops and stalls change, so use the Chinese street name to reach the area and choose an open business with a visible menu. Calligraphy supplies and inexpensive printed books make more useful browsing than buying an object solely because its seller calls it an antique.

The old-city wall and gates supply a setting for the walk. Wall-top access, monument interiors and a marketed night performance have their own opening or ticket arrangements. A street stroll is the flexible part of the plan when you want to sit down early or leave in rain.

7. Duke of Zhou Temple: look further back than Confucius

Hours
Current hours, last entry and accessible halls check through Qufu relic visitor notices or +86 537 441 2444 before the separate car leg. A conservation profile does not establish today’s access.
Tickets
The municipal tariff lists Zhougong Temple as free. Ask about any visit-date registration, carry the original passport and do not buy a Three Kong combo solely for this site.
Time
45–75 min, plus road legs (editorial allowance)
Address
周公庙(当日游客入口)· 山东省曲阜市鲁城街道周公庙社区(official locality;street number and current gate check)。Specify 曲阜: other cities also have temples of this name.
Getting there
Arrange a hotel-to-曲阜周公庙 taxi and a same-gate pickup after the short visit. Agree the open entrance before departure; do not extend a Cemetery ride here without counting the additional road and visiting time.
How to visit
Signed visitor gate → Lingxing Gate → open stone arches and courtyards → Yuansheng Hall when accessible → same signed exit → booked return. If it is closed, keep the free time in #6 instead of searching for an unofficial entrance.

This memorial honours the Duke of Zhou / 周公姬旦. The cultural authority describes three courtyards, stone arches, Yuansheng Hall / 元圣殿, old trees and surviving inscriptions. The arches’ references to ordering the world and making ritual and music provide a different theme from the Kong family’s later household.

Choose it for an extra architecture and early ritual-history visit after the core Three Kong experience. Look at the surviving halls and inscriptions along the signed route, keeping to the open areas. The detour and another series of thresholds are real costs: this is an interest-led extension, not a reason to reduce the Temple or miss the station buffer.

8. Nishan Sacred Land: a separate cultural outing

Hours
Check the operator’s programme for the selected date and last entry. Evening programmes vary with the season, weather and maintenance; no fixed show time is assumed here.
Tickets
Separate from Three Kong. Choose admission-only or a named Jinsheng Yuzhen package, then confirm the actual date, seat, passport procedure and inclusions with the seller. Current price is check; the operator’s readable website supplies no complete tariff.
Time
Half-to-full day including road legs (editorial allowance)
Address
尼山圣境(游客中心,以所购产品指定入口为准)· 山东省曲阜市尼山镇(map platform locality;official visitor-centre street number check via 400 688 2323)。Do not substitute 尼山孔庙 or 鲁源村.
Getting there
Book hotel → confirmed visitor centre → hotel transport together. Agree the return meeting point and pickup after the final performance actually booked, with all waiting and road charges in the quote.
How to visit
Visitor centre and current entry/shuttle → open statue and ceremonial spaces → Great Learning Hall → only the performance in your ticket → agreed exit pickup → hotel. Keep this off a tight train-departure evening.

Nishan Sacred Land / 尼山圣境 is southeast of Qufu and requires a separate road journey. Choose its monumental Confucius statue, broad ceremonial spaces and Great Learning Hall / 大学堂 when you want a modern interpretation of Confucian culture. A ritual or staged performance is a different experience from walking the original Temple, Mansion and Cemetery. It belongs outside the Three Kong ticket.

Use the Nishan operator for the day's programme and the Nishan ticket listing to distinguish admission-only from a named Jinsheng Yuzhen / 金声玉振 performance package. Select the actual date, entry period and show seating if included. The readable operator homepage did not supply a usable passport form or full dated tariff. The listing gives 400 688 2323 for ticket inquiries within China; ask for ordinary-passport admission, collection point and the dated programme, then have your chosen seller confirm the product inclusions before paying. Luyuan Village and the historic Nishan Temple/academy are separate named places, not automatic inclusions in a Sacred Land ticket.

Arrange hotel-to-visitor-centre transport and the return together. Give the driver 尼山圣境游客中心, agree the exit meeting point and set a pickup after the last performance you have actually booked. An app car available on arrival does not guarantee one after a late show. Allow a half-to-full day including the road legs; evening programmes add a later return and are a poor fit before an early train.

Keep the central heritage day first when it is the reason for your trip. With limited time, choose the museum for objects and context or Nishan for scale and performance. On a wet or windy evening, ask which outdoor programmes still run before committing to the late return. A closure at Three Kong does not make Nishan an equivalent substitute.

Eat everyday Qufu food, then choose a small Kong-style meal

For a simple breakfast or snack, look for jianbing / 煎饼, thin pancakes, xun doufu / 熏豆腐, smoked tofu, and hu zhou / 糊粥, the local thick porridge. The city's food account identifies all three with Qufu street eating. Ask what filling goes into a pancake and whether the tofu is served hot, cold or in broth. They are useful names to show a vendor, not a promise that every stall on Wumaci Street makes all three.

A solo traveller can start with one pancake and one bowl of porridge, adding a small portion of tofu when available. Two people can choose two pancakes, a shared tofu portion and a bowl of porridge each. Order in stages; street portions and prices depend on the stall. For allergies or vegetarian needs, show the ingredients to exclude as well as the dish name: tofu, vegetables and porridge can contain meat stock or other additions.

Shang Palace / 香宫: a named place to try Kong cuisine

This restaurant is on Level 1, West Wing, Shangri-La Qufu, 3 Chunqiu Road. Its operator advertises Kong and Lu cooking; the published menu provides actual dishes rather than a compulsory banquet. Kongmen tofu in rich broth / 浓汤孔门豆腐 is CNY 58 per sharing dish, Kong-style oil-dressed chicken / 孔府油淋桂花鸡 CNY 78, and vinegar cabbage / 醋溜白菜 CNY 48. Six ritual gifts / 六礼束修, CNY 68 per dish, lists cured meat and Kong-style pancakes as its main ingredients.

  • For one: start with Shandong beef hand-rolled noodles / 山东牛肉手擀面, CNY 28 per bowl, or carrot-and-egg dumplings / 胡萝卜鸡蛋水饺, 12 for CNY 40. Ask about the per-person sauced jar pork / 孔府酱香坛子肉, CNY 28, if you want a small Kong-style addition.
  • For two: start with the tofu, chicken and cabbage plus two bowls of rice at CNY 6 each: CNY 196 at the posted menu prices. This provides three shared dishes without requiring a banquet or an expensive whole-fish order.
  • For four: begin with those three dishes, Six Ritual Gifts, 12 pork-and-scallion dumplings at CNY 50 and Kong-style fried rice at CNY 58: CNY 360. Ask the server about portions before adding more. The CNY 258 sharing jar-pork dish is a larger purchase than its CNY 28 per-person version.

The sweet Shili ginkgo / 诗礼银杏 is a traditional Kong-family dish; this menu prices it at CNY 48 per person. Its soups also include per-person items, such as Three Nested Soups / 孔门三套汤 at CNY 78. Count these by the number ordered, separately from sharing dishes. The menu states that its prices include service charge and applicable government taxes/VAT. The examples above exclude drinks and extra dishes; menu publication does not establish tonight's stock.

The restaurant page publishes lunch 11:30–14:00 and dinner 17:30–22:00, with contact +86 537 699 6988. Reserve a public dining-room table, ask whether à la carte is available for your date and confirm the menu and total before ordering. No table, meal or payment has been tested for this guide.

Plan for thresholds, long walks and changing access

Temple and Mansion visits involve courtyards, hard surfaces and historic thresholds. The Cemetery adds a long outdoor walk even if you use a vehicle for part of the interior. Ask the operator for a route suitable to your mobility needs and the remaining distance from an internal vehicle stop. A general “accessible” label on a tour listing cannot settle access to every historic room.

In hot weather, start with confirmed morning Temple admission, carry drinking water and take a seated lunch. In persistent rain, stone surfaces and outdoor waiting become the main cost: shorten the Temple branches and keep the Cemetery for better conditions, using an admitted museum only when its own entry is settled. In cold weather, put the outdoor visits in the daylight period and leave time for a warm meal. Spring and autumn often make the long walks more comfortable, but the actual forecast should decide clothing and cuts.

National holidays, school groups and ceremonial dates can add queues. Around the annual Confucius observances, a scheduled event may alter access rather than supply a performance for every ticket holder. Read the date's site notice and leave slack in the visit order. If a core site closes, rearrange the heritage day or shorten the trip; keep the choice visible rather than silently replacing it with an unrelated outing.

Return to the right station with your luggage and time in hand

Book the next journey from the exact station shown by 12306. Qufu East / 曲阜东 and Qufu Station / 曲阜站 need different pickup instructions. Tell reception the train number, departure time and station, then agree when and where the car will collect you. For a train with a tight hotel-to-gate chain, use a confirmed car rather than relying on the last bus.

Finish the final visit, collect stored luggage, use the bathroom and eat before starting the station ride. We suggest reaching the station about one hour before departure for a first trip with a foreign passport, longer during heavy holiday queues; this is our planning buffer, not a railway check-in rule. Keep the original booking document and train details ready for a staffed identity check when needed.

If using K01 back to Qufu East, find the correct-direction stop and the day's last service before leaving the hotel. The published stop sequence establishes the link but not your last departure. Shangri-La's published pickup does not automatically establish a free return shuttle; ask the hotel for its available reverse service or arrange a taxi.

For Jinan, Tai'an or Qingdao next, search the actual rail stations and your date before treating the transfer as a short hop. Read the Shandong route choices for the nights those destinations need. Keep the Cemetery off a tight departure morning and Nishan off an evening immediately before an early train.
