Longji Rice Terraces Choose one village base; give the terraces a full, unhurried day.
Longji is a working mountain landscape: narrow rice fields follow the contours above timber villages, with water, forest and generations of farming holding the slopes together. The reward is the changing pattern as you walk, pause above the fields and return to a village meal. It is worth more than a race to one photograph.
For a first independent visit, choose Ping’an and stay two nights for one complete day between road-transfer days. Use Seven Stars around the Moon and Nine Dragons and Five Tigers as two modest viewpoint outings, with time for the village and lunch. Choose Dazhai/Jinkeng instead if the broader basin and an operating cableway to Golden Buddha Peak matter more; it is a different base, not the next stop on a short Ping’an walk.
A Guilin day trip is workable when the vehicle and return are confirmed, but it should concentrate on one terrace area. One overnight gives a village evening and morning; two nights avoid making every visit compete with a road transfer. Longji Ancient Zhuang Village and Huangluo are separate cultural choices. The rice’s colour, reflection, harvest and clear sunrise are never included in an admission ticket.

Ping’an, 1, is the default two-night base. Dazhai/Jinkeng, 2, is its alternative. Longji Ancient Zhuang Village, 3, and Huangluo, 4, are separately arranged cultural visits. The diagram groups choices; it is not a scale map, a trail survey or a promise that those places form one easy walking circuit.
Choose Ping’an for a village-and-viewpoint stay without chasing every lookout. Choose Dazhai/Jinkeng for its broader basin and Golden Buddha Peak cableway, accepting that a room higher around Tiantou may require a very different final approach. Choose a Guilin day trip if luggage, mobility or a fixed wider itinerary makes another hotel move unhelpful: name one area in the booking and keep its return intact.
Guilin is the road gateway; Yangshuo is another destination in the opposite part of the wider journey. A Li River cruise or Yangshuo ride is not included in the Longji day. Return to a Guilin base before a fixed next-morning departure, rather than assuming a late mountain-road arrival will meet the last onward service.
Four visits with different reasons to choose them
1. Ping’an Rice Terraces · 平安梯田
Ping’an’s appeal is the fine, curved drawing of cultivated terraces around the village. At Seven Stars around the Moon / 七星伴月, look for the small raised forms within the fields and how the surrounding strips bend around them. Nine Dragons and Five Tigers / 九龙五虎 gives another arrangement of ridges and cultivated slopes. You do not need both in the same uninterrupted climb to understand the landscape.
The village belongs to the experience: timber buildings, stairs, small shops, meals and people moving between home and work. Stay on the signed visitor paths and leave crops, irrigation channels and field banks alone. A terrace is somebody’s livelihood, not a shortcut for a photograph. Ask before entering a home or joining agricultural work.
Choose a walk you can reverse. Stone steps become slippery in rain, and a high room can involve repeated climbs with luggage. If the afternoon viewpoint feels too much, a shorter lane walk, a tea stop and another view near the accommodation make a complete day. The historical hero photograph shows this Ping’an landscape; it does not promise the same planting stage today.
Hours
Use daylight for paths and ask your accommodation which viewpoints are open. Do not interpret the operator’s general “all day” listing as round-the-clock staffing, transport or safe night access.
Tickets
The operator publishes an ¥80 ordinary-adult admission reference. Its tariff cites a 2018 price document; confirm the dated total and multi-day use with its visitor service.
Time
Keep the full day for two unhurried viewpoint outings, lunch and the village. A shorter visitor can choose one viewpoint and return by the same path.

Getting there
Ask for 平安寨停车场 and arrange the final approach with the property. A room described as “Longji” may be at another village or above a long stepped climb.
How to visit
Village base → an open signed path to Seven Stars around the Moon → return for lunch → an appropriate open route toward Nine Dragons and Five Tigers → return to the same base before dark. This is a planning sequence, not a surveyed through-trail.
2. Dazhai / Jinkeng Rice Terraces · 大寨·金坑梯田
Jinkeng offers a more expansive bowl of terraces and Red Yao village settings. Pick it when you want that larger scene or when a return cableway is the right way to reach a high panorama. The Golden Buddha Peak / 金佛顶 cableway is one specific outing, not an elevator linking all the upper viewpoints.
Thousand Layers of Terraces / 千层天梯 and West Hill Music / 西山韶乐 are different walking goals. A Tiantou stay can suit an able walker prioritising those areas, while a Dazhai-side stay is a simpler starting point for the cableway choice. Before booking a hillside room, establish the actual vehicle endpoint and remaining climb. A “panoramic view” is a room characteristic, not a transport guarantee.
The default easier visit uses the same cableway in both directions when it is operating. Buy a one-way ticket only after staff have confirmed a descent you can finish in daylight and that returns to the pickup you actually booked. If wind or maintenance stops the cableway, use a manageable lower-village visit or remain at the accommodation; do not commit to a long climb merely to preserve a prepaid photographic ambition.
Hours
Ask for the current cableway’s first/last boarding and weather status before buying. An afternoon stop time is not established by the admission’s general opening listing.
Tickets
The operator’s published reference is ¥100 return or ¥55 one way for the Jinkeng cableway, separate from admission; ask for the current dated fare and inclusions.
Time
For the easier version, use an operating return cableway to Golden Buddha Peak, then a modest lower-village visit. Other upper viewpoints require their own walking and return decision.

Getting there
Book the car or coach to 大寨停车场, not 平安寨. Establish whether the hotel is in Dazhai or higher Tiantou, and who handles the final road or stepped approach.
How to visit
Start from the confirmed Dazhai/cableway access → Golden Buddha Peak if the return service is operating → return by the purchased service → lunch and a short village walk → the same hotel. Do not assume this cableway reaches Tiantou, Thousand Layers or West Hill Music.
3. Longji Ancient Zhuang Village · 龙脊古壮寨
Longji Ancient Zhuang Village changes the emphasis from the largest panorama to a settlement’s materials, lanes and relationship with farming. Look for timber construction, stone details and the way houses and cultivated ground occupy the hillside. Its community heritage is a reason to slow down and listen, rather than to label every home a museum exhibit.
Choose it as a half-day cultural outing with confirmed transport, especially on a longer stay. A community display or historic-house interior can add context when actually open; the village still has a meaningful outdoor story without promising a specific exhibition. Do not treat an old operator description of free access as a current admission guarantee.

Choose daylight; ask visitor service about any community exhibition or historic house you specifically want. Older descriptions do not guarantee that an interior is operating.
Tickets
Ask the scenic visitor service whether your issued admission covers this separate visit and any re-entry to your overnight base. No extra free museum entry or ticket validity is guaranteed here.
Time
A half-day is an editorial allowance for a modest lane-and-field-edge visit, excluding the road legs.

Getting there
Arrange a licensed out-and-back car to the precise village entrance. It is not offered here as an easy unmarked walk from Ping’an or Dazhai.
How to visit
Entrance → permitted village lanes and timber/stone details → an open terrace-edge viewpoint → any confirmed exhibition → the same agreed pickup. Ask before photographing a resident or entering a home.
4. Huangluo Yao Village · 黄洛瑶寨
Huangluo is the Red Yao cultural choice: textiles, village commerce and the long-hair tradition presented in organised visitor experiences. An admitted performance can provide context and an income for participants, but it is a scheduled tourism product, not evidence that every resident is continuously performing for visitors.
If a show interests you, request its session, duration, language or explanatory support and separate charge before adding the stop. Otherwise choose a modest permitted village visit and buy crafts only when you want the item. Ask permission for personal photographs; never touch a person’s hair or clothing to improve a picture. Skip this stop if it would leave the main terrace area with only a rushed final hour.
Hours
Request the actual performance session before adding one to a transfer day. No daily show time or year-round festival is promised.
Tickets
The operator’s published reference lists the Huangluo song-and-dance product at ¥80; confirm current price, language, session and admission relationship separately.
Time
Allow about 1–2 hours for the selected village or performance visit, rather than automatically adding it to an already full terrace day.

Getting there
Add a named Huangluo stop only to a car agreement that includes waiting, the continuing village transfer and luggage. A direct coach ticket may not allow a stop.
How to visit
Permitted village streets → textiles or an agreed cultural presentation → agreed car pickup. Choose it for culture; it does not replace the high terrace views at Ping’an or Jinkeng.
Sleep in the village you intend to visit
Ping’an village: select a road-accessible or lower-village property for the default two nights, with nearby meals and a manageable route to the paths. The highest terrace-facing room may suit a light-bag walker, but can be a poor choice for a large suitcase or repeated difficult stairs. Ask the property to describe the actual car endpoint, walking time in ordinary conditions, steps and any luggage service and charge.
Dazhai / lower Jinkeng: choose it for the cableway-led alternative and arrange the precise final pickup. Tiantou / 田头寨: choose it deliberately for upper walking goals; do not infer that a Dazhai coach or cableway drops at the door. Ancient Zhuang Village: consider it only when the village itself is the priority and the property can support the intended terrace outings.
Open Longsheng accommodation search, enter two adults, one room and two nights, and use the map or name filter for 平安寨 or your chosen alternative. A Longsheng county-centre hotel is not an overnight in the terraces. Check the pin, passport check-in, heating or cooling, meals, final approach and cancellation terms directly with the property before payment. No named property or room was field-tested.
Keep one base for the short stay. If you add a second terrace area, treat the road move, luggage and any re-entry terms as work to book, not as a free walking link. Where steep steps are unsuitable even after local transport, the better alternative is a Guilin stay with a suitable confirmed excursion, or Guilin’s city visits if safe access cannot be arranged.
Eat near the walk, and give village life time
On the arrival evening, eat at the accommodation or a nearby village restaurant so dinner does not require another mountain ride. Ask what is being freshly prepared and order simply: rice, a vegetable dish and a cooked chicken, pork, tofu or egg dish for two, according to your needs. A whole chicken can be a much larger and more expensive order than one person’s portion.
Bamboo-tube rice / 竹筒饭 is a useful local-style choice when a restaurant is actually serving it: ask about the filling and whether meat or lard is used. It need not be a paid cooking experience. For tea or a small craft purchase, the point is a comfortable break and an exchange with the person selling it, not an obligation to buy an advertised package.
On the complete Ping’an day, return to the village for a proper lunch between viewpoint outings. Carry water and a snack because a remote stall’s opening is not guaranteed. At Huangluo, ask whether a meal is included before paying for a cultural product; at Jinkeng, eat before the last return service becomes a pressure. Confirm portion size, unit and total before accepting a dish or tasting with a charge.
Vegetarian requests need an ingredient check, including stock, cured meat and cooking fat. The meal figures below are spending inputs rather than sampled menus. No restaurant, cooking class or allergy handling was tested.
Two nights for one complete terrace day
Arrival day · first Ping’an night: leave Guilin by the confirmed road service, complete the actual admission process and meet the property’s agreed final transfer or luggage help. Settle in, take a short daylight village walk and eat nearby. Do not describe this variable arrival afternoon as a complete sightseeing day.
Complete day · second Ping’an night: after breakfast, use an open signed route to Seven Stars around the Moon, pause above the fields, and return to the village for lunch. If paths, energy and weather allow, choose a separate afternoon outing toward Nine Dragons and Five Tigers; otherwise keep an easier village-and-nearby-view afternoon. Return to the same room before dark and have dinner locally.
Departure day: breakfast, check out and take the reserved return to Guilin. An Ancient Zhuang Village or Huangluo stop belongs here only when its admission, waiting time and continuation have been agreed and there is no tight onward connection. Without that agreement, return directly. This version contains two village nights and one complete terrace day, with road travel on both sides.
Only one night: choose one base and one suitable viewpoint on the arrival afternoon or departure morning, according to actual transport. You get a village evening and morning; you do not get an uninterrupted full day. With no overnight, use a Guilin return excursion to one chosen area, with a daylight visit, lunch and a confirmed same-day return. Do not add both main terrace areas and all cultural villages.
Want a second full day? Add a third night. Keep the same base for another modest walk and a separately driven Ancient Zhuang Village half-day, or explicitly plan a road transfer to a second base with luggage and the new return confirmed. A second base gives different scenery but consumes part of the day. Recheck the admission’s multi-day and re-entry terms before payment; a historic three-day promotion is not a permanent entitlement.
Choose Jinkeng instead: keep the same arrival / complete day / departure shape, but book Dazhai or Tiantou deliberately. Use the return cableway-and-village plan for the complete day if it is operating. Do not combine it with a full Ping’an day inside the same two-night stay.
Book the whole road chain and the correct ticket
Pick the actual base first: 平安寨 or 大寨/田头寨. Give your Guilin hotel, chosen village hotel, passenger count, luggage and arrival/departure dates to the vehicle provider. Ask the property for a licensed service, or use Guilin CITS’s Longji vehicle enquiry for a provider quote. CITS is a travel provider, separate from the scenic operator.
Confirm all legs: Guilin pickup → scenic admission point → the correct village parking/vehicle endpoint → the room’s final approach. For the return, name the village pickup, time and exact Guilin hotel or station. State whether the price includes scenic transfers, waiting, parking and luggage help. A coach sold to Jinkeng does not establish a direct service to Ping’an.
Resolve admission with the scenic visitor service: call +86 773 7583188, published on the operator’s contact page. Give the travel date, original passport type, chosen base and two-night stay. Ask how to issue and validate admission, whether leaving/re-entering or visiting another area is included, and which supported official sales channel or staffed window to use.
Separate optional purchases: the operator’s published tariff lists an ¥80 adult admission reference and separate internal road, Jinkeng cableway and Huangluo performance products. Its tariff cites a 2018 price document. Obtain the current dated total and specific vehicle/cable session rather than buying a product by its lowest advertised number.
The operator’s public web product was reachable when checked but displayed telephone enquiry / sold-out listings and a marked test ticket; its WordPress ticket page directed visitors to a Douyin QR. Neither proves that all scenic admission is unavailable, and neither is a successful booking in this guide. Do not buy the test product or enter passport/payment details into the unencrypted old website. Use the published visitor-service number to obtain the supported current channel or staffed-window process before committing to non-refundable rooms and transfers. No anonymous live stock, passport acceptance at checkout or payment success is claimed.
For rail, compare Guilin 桂林, Guilin North 桂林北 and Guilin West 桂林西 on 12306 for your date. They are different pickup points. For air arrival, use Guilin Liangjiang Airport 桂林两江国际机场 and the airline’s actual schedule, then allow a separate road transfer. No old coach timetable, exact taxi fare or same-day air-to-mountain connection is guaranteed. Carry the original passport used in the order and save the actual operator and hotel contacts offline.
Read the crop and weather, with a usable fallback
Flooded fields, green growing rice, yellow mature crops and cut stubble are different stages of a farmed landscape. They vary by village, water management, weather and annual harvest decisions. If a particular colour is the reason for your trip, consult the operator’s current village announcements and ask the chosen accommodation for a recent, dated view of that exact area before choosing room terms. A photograph from another village or another year is insufficient.
Choose the terraces for their shape and farming culture even when they are not golden. Do not book a sunrise or sea-of-clouds result as guaranteed: cloud, mist and rain may hide the view. Keep the full day flexible, take the clearest safe window for a modest viewpoint, and use a village meal and rest when visibility is poor.
If roads or paths are closed: contact the booked vehicle provider and property before leaving Guilin. Stay in Guilin and use its city plan if safe mountain access cannot be confirmed. Already in a village, follow staff and local instructions, contact the property to extend the room or arrange the next permitted departure, and change an onward booking through its original channel if necessary. Never cross a barrier or an irrigation bank to bypass a closed trail. A stopped cableway is a reason to change the visit, not to find an unverified descent.
A worked budget for two, with transport kept visible
For two ordinary-fare adults sharing one room, two Ping’an nights and one complete day, use 2R + 2P + T + V + M + X. R is the actual room rate; P is the per-person admission total required for the selected stay; T is both adults’ entire Guilin-to-village-and-back road agreement; V is selected local scenic vehicles or luggage help; M covers arrival lunch/dinner through departure breakfast; X is water and a small contingency. Intercity rail or flights to Guilin are outside this calculation.
Worked inputs: R = ¥320, P = ¥80, T = ¥800, V = ¥120, M = ¥440 and X = ¥120. The total is ¥640 + ¥160 + ¥800 + ¥120 + ¥440 + ¥120 = ¥2,280 for the pair. P uses the operator’s published reference, whose price basis is dated; all other amounts are illustrative planning inputs, not room samples, a licensed-car quote or a checked local fare. Replace them with your dated orders. The ¥80 input assumes one issued admission covers the agreed stay; if visitor service requires another dated admission or paid re-entry, add that actual charge before comparing options. If T already includes a chosen scenic shuttle, remove that item from V rather than paying it twice. Unknown services are not zero.
The one-night shortened example, keeping the same T, P and V but using one ¥320 room, ¥280 meals and ¥100 contingency, is ¥320 + ¥160 + ¥800 + ¥120 + ¥280 + ¥100 = ¥1,780. The Guilin day-trip example has no village room and uses ¥180 meals and ¥100 contingency: ¥800 + ¥160 + ¥120 + ¥180 + ¥100 = ¥1,360. These compare the same hypothetical return-car arrangement; an actual shared coach or tour has different inclusions and must be recalculated.
For a Jinkeng return-cableway alternative, the operator’s published ¥100 per adult reference adds ¥200 for two if it is not already included. With all other sample inputs unchanged, that is ¥2,480; a different room or road quote changes the total too. This does not price a second terrace area or an extra night. Guiding, performances, shopping, cooking classes, porter costs beyond V and weather-delay nights are excluded unless specifically added. Keep enough funds for a real extra room and meals if departure is disrupted.
Sources and the actual verification boundary
Sources were read on . The agricultural museum and cultural ministry support the farming system and distinct village areas; the operator supplies its contact, posted product references and current crop announcements. The public product’s price basis and online limitations are kept explicit. The government tax report separately identifies Guilin Longji Tourism as the scenic operator; a travel agency’s vehicle enquiry is a provider service, not the operator’s tariff.
Stay lengths, viewpoint order, preferred bases, meal choices and sample budget inputs are editorial planning. No driver was hired, call placed, hotel stayed in, passport admission purchased, meal tasted or trail/cableway field-tested. The photograph retains its historical capture information. A seasonal announcement was read for the condition it changes; its short-term calendar date is not presented as a recurring harvest promise.
