Longhushan The river’s red cliffs, a high land path and Shangqing’s courtyards offer different ways to spend two unhurried days.
Longhushan pairs reddish Danxia cliffs with a green river corridor and a living Taoist cultural landscape. A bamboo raft gives changing views from the water; a land path makes the cliff shapes readable from above. Upstream, Shangqing and Tianshifu change the pace from scenery to courtyards and religious history. The name describes a spread-out scenic region, not one summit above a single gate.
Stay three nights near the main visitor centre and allow two full days. Give the river, cliff setting and Elephant Trunk Hill one day, then Shangqing and Tianshifu another. With only one full day, choose the river-and-cliff encounter and omit the upstream cultural outing rather than rushing both. Nanchang works as a preceding city stay with a rail transfer; this guide’s nights are at Longhushan, not repeated day trips from Nanchang.

See red cliff walls and changing rock profiles from a low, gently moving river viewpoint · River corridor: assigned boarding dock to Xianshuiyan / Taohuazhou side
Allow a half day for transfer, boarding, the ride and the landing area · Raft is separate from basic admission and sightseeing bus; published ordinary raft reference ¥100.
Look up to cavities in the cliffs and understand the ancient burial setting · Xianshuiyan / Taohuazhou river-side visiting area
Allow 1–2 hours after landing, more for a confirmed demonstration · Use the admitted scenic route; a current coffin-raising demonstration is not guaranteed by an old timetable.
1 raft and 2 cliff setting share the Luxi River corridor; 3 Elephant Trunk Hill is a distinct land path; 4 Shangqing/Tianshifu is the upstream cultural group. The diagram shows these relationships, not a continuous walking loop or a live bus timetable.
Use 龙虎山游客中心 as the transport anchor. Resolve the current order of raft, cliff visit and land path with its desk because water conditions, assigned docks and bus operations can change the sequence. The published operator day plan links them, but this guide does not require entering a land path after its safe cutoff.
The numbered places
1. Luxi River bamboo raft · 泸溪河竹筏
The raft makes the river the organising axis of the landscape. The red cliffs rise above you and their shapes change as the boat advances. Choose it for the sustained water-level view rather than an adventurous white-water activity.
This is a one-way visitor product with assigned boarding and landing. Your return is by the authorised land transport, not by assuming another raft goes back upstream. Keep the landing-area visit and return bus within the same agreed plan.
Hours
Ask at the visitor centre for the day’s raft operating status, boarding assignment and final landing-to-base return.
Tickets
A ¥135 admission-and-bus reference excludes rafting; the operator’s published ¥230 combination includes a discounted raft component. Compare the actual basket.
Time
Keep the morning and early afternoon flexible; the historical operator ride estimate is about 45 minutes, excluding boarding and transfers.
Chinese address
江西省鹰潭市龙虎山风景名胜区 · 泸溪河竹筏码头
Getting there
Take the assigned sightseeing bus to the operating boarding dock, float to the directed landing, then use the signed exit/pickup rather than trying to paddle back.
How to visit
Confirm the exact landing and return before boarding, wear the supplied lifejacket and keep hands inside. High water or suspension removes this experience.
2. Xianshuiyan cliff-coffin setting · 仙水岩 · 崖墓
The cliff tomb setting is one of Longhushan’s distinctive cultural encounters. Cavities high in the red rock make the practical question of placing coffins there immediately visible. Use interpretation to separate archaeological evidence from colourful legend.
If a coffin-raising demonstration is operating, watch from its designated audience area. Do not build the day around a historical fixed performance time. The cliffs and their interpretation remain the subject even if weather cancels the staged display.
Hours
A staffed open cliff-viewing route and a staged demonstration have different operating arrangements. Confirm any performance after arrival.
Tickets
Check the admitted Xianshuiyan area in your product; do not buy an unnecessary second whole scenic ticket immediately after a covered raft landing.
Time
The visit can fit after the raft; leave enough time for its exit and the bus to the next land walk.
Chinese address
江西省鹰潭市龙虎山 · 仙水岩 / 桃花洲
Getting there
Follow the signed riverside visitor route from the operating landing or assigned bus stop; use the identified return stop to the visitor centre.
How to visit
Look at the cliff cavities and interpretation. A modern coffin-raising demonstration illustrates a reconstruction; it is not an ancient burial taking place.
3. Elephant Trunk Hill · 象鼻山
The rock arch suggests an elephant lowering its trunk, but the wider land path is equally useful: it gives a different view of the Danxia landscape after looking up from the river. Take time at the admitted platforms rather than treating the arch as a hurried tick.
Keep this visit separate in your head from the raft landing. The scenic-bus system connects distinct paths; proximity on an area diagram is not an instruction to walk service roads or tunnels between them.
Hours
Use the current open path and direction; last scenic-bus service matters separately from admission.
Tickets
The operator includes Elephant Trunk Hill in the main scenic landscape. The bus and optional products must be checked on the actual order.
Time
A half-day allowance is deliberately wider than the operator’s historic 1.5-hour path estimate.
Chinese address
江西省鹰潭市龙虎山 · 象鼻山;不是桂林象鼻山
Getting there
Take the assigned sightseeing bus to the stated trail entrance; establish which signed exit and bus stop return to the centre before starting.
How to visit
Take the admitted cliff path for the rock opening and surrounding red cliffs. Stairs and height exposure make it unsuitable as a guaranteed low-mobility substitute.
4. Shangqing Ancient Town and Tianshifu · 上清古镇 · 嗣汉天师府
Shangqing earns a slower day. Its town setting and Tianshifu’s courtyards explain why Longhushan matters beyond geology. Visit the open religious spaces quietly, leave room for lunch and allow everyday town activity to be part of the encounter.
Choose Tianshifu deliberately rather than collecting every temple name. A ceremonial event or every building being open is not guaranteed. Ask before photographing worshippers and respect signs at interiors.
Hours
Check the actual Tianshifu courtyard access and the last Shangqing return before leaving the visitor centre.
Tickets
The operator’s current annual-card site list names Shangqing and Tianshifu, but it does not establish every ordinary dated ticket’s terms. Ask for your specific admission/bus coverage.
Time
A full day includes the outward/return journey, town walk, palace visit and lunch without another river activity.
Chinese address
江西省贵溪市上清镇 · 上清古镇 / 嗣汉天师府
Getting there
Use the operating visitor-centre/official bus connection to 上清古镇, or a licensed complete road return if the offered bus does not meet your plan.
How to visit
Visit the open palace respectfully, then spend time on the admitted town streets and river setting. Tianshifu and the separate Da Shangqing Palace are not interchangeable names.
A visitor-centre base makes both days easier
Default: near the main Longhushan visitor centre, in a room with a confirmed safe walk or hotel shuttle to the entrance. It keeps breakfast, ticket assistance and the end of the scenic-bus day together. Make dinner near that hotel rather than relying on a late return from an upstream restaurant.
Shangqing town: choose it if Taoist heritage and a quiet town evening dominate, accepting an extra complete transfer to the landscape day. Yingtan city: useful for a late rail arrival and more city services, but repeats a road connection on each visiting day.
Use accommodation search with 龙虎山游客中心, three nights, one room, two adults. Check the map pin, original-passport check-in, breakfast, cancellation, luggage access and station pickups. The official website’s hotel-name placeholders and generic ticket prices are not checked room quotes. No named property is recommended as a tested product.
Two full days without making everything a single bus race
Arrival · night 1: reach the lower-base hotel, have dinner, confirm the next day’s raft and bus status and secure dated admission. Keep intercity arrival separate from the river trip.
Landscape day · night 2: start at the visitor centre, take the assigned bus to the operating raft dock, make the raft journey and visit the Xianshuiyan cliff setting. Eat before the separate Elephant Trunk Hill path, then return by the confirmed scenic bus to the centre and hotel. If staff assign the land path before the raft, reverse those two visits; if queues or the last return make both unsafe, keep raft and cliff setting and omit the hill.
Cultural day · night 3: travel to Shangqing, visit the open Tianshifu courtyards, walk a manageable town section, have a seated lunch and return before the last confirmed bus. A slow town afternoon is the useful alternative to adding another paid ride.
Departure morning: take the booked full road connection to the correct railway station. One-full-day / two-night version: retain the landscape day and omit Shangqing. If rafting is suspended, use the open land path and, with enough return time, Shangqing; do not buy a water product merely to complete a package.
Name the railway station and every return leg
Use 12306 for Yingtan North 鹰潭北 high-speed services or Yingtan 鹰潭 conventional services. They are different stations. Quote the station actually printed on your booking, then arrange transport to 龙虎山风景名胜区游客中心 or the hotel’s exact address.
For this stay, arrange a licensed taxi or hotel-arranged driver for both station legs, naming the station and actual hotel in the full quote. Public transport can replace it only after the staffed station desk confirms a current visitor-centre service and a return that fits your train. No present bus route, departure or fare was verified here.
At the scenic centre, confirm boarding direction, the assigned raft dock and landing exit, Shangqing service and the last bus back. The operator specifically warns that scenic roads include narrow sections and tunnels: walking them to avoid the sightseeing bus is not the default. If a final service is missed, stay at a staffed stop and call the visitor centre or hotel for a licensed recovery ride.
Compare admission, bus validity and rafting separately
Use the official 江西龙虎山景区 WeChat account and its current ticket menu, or an authorised seller identified by the operator. Ask for two ordinary adults, two consecutive scenic days, main admission + bus covering both days + one raft ride each. Show: 两位成人,连续两天游览,门票和观光车覆盖两天,竹筏每人一次;请确认上清天师府、象鼻山、仙水岩是否包含。
The operator’s August 2025 response lists ¥135 admission + bus (¥90 + ¥45), ¥230 including a discounted raft, and ¥100 for a raft bought separately. Its current annual-card notice also lists the separate raft at ¥100, but annual-card terms are a different product. A lower advertised “from ¥45” is not the ordinary adult basket described here.
Confirm whether the quoted dated package covers both days, bus validity, the chosen sites, one-time raft use and unused-ticket cancellation. If not, ask for two separate dated admission/bus products instead of assuming free re-entry. The budget below deliberately allows both days. For passport purchase or checking assistance, establish the procedure with 400 8853 766 (China domestic service line; use the official account’s contact channel if calling from abroad is unavailable) before non-refundable travel. Bring the original matching passport and saved order; a foreign-passport purchase was not completed.
Use a walking lunch and give Shangqing a seated meal
Eat breakfast by the hotel. On the landscape day, carry water and a simple packed lunch so a change of raft slot does not depend on a particular riverside restaurant. Eat only at an admitted service area and return to the base for dinner.
On the Shangqing day, leave time for a town lunch. 上清豆腐 Shangqing tofu is one of the local foods named by the operator; rice, a tofu dish, a vegetable and a clearly priced fish or chicken dish make a practical shared order. Ask the fish’s unit price and weight before agreeing to it, and request less chilli if needed. A local dish name does not guarantee a vegetarian stock or an allergy-safe kitchen. Menus, meal prices and restaurant service were not field-tested.
A raft suspension changes the plan, not just the photograph
High water, storms or an operator suspension can remove rafting or close cliff paths. Confirm the water product before buying it; use an open land/cultural day or change the visit under the order’s terms. Never seek a private unlicensed raft as a replacement.
Elephant Trunk Hill’s high path is not a guaranteed easy option for someone with height or mobility constraints. Keep the open lower cultural visit as the alternative and establish the actual access with the operator. River railings and cliff barriers are limits, not viewpoints to climb. No forecast can guarantee a particular water colour or demonstration.
Budget both scenic days before assuming a pass saving
For two ordinary adults, one shared room, three nights and two full days, use 3R + 2A + T + M + X. R = ¥300/night; A = ¥370/person as a conservative reference basket of two ¥135 admission/bus days plus one ¥100 raft; T = ¥300 for the pair’s complete station/local road allowance; M = ¥600 meals; X = ¥140 water and contingency. The result is ¥900 + ¥740 + ¥300 + ¥600 + ¥140 = ¥2,680 for the pair.
If your confirmed product includes both days for less, replace A with its real complete price. Do not buy two scenic admissions when one valid product already covers both days. For the one-full-day / two-night landscape stay, illustrative inputs are ¥600 rooms + 2 × ¥230 complete day products + ¥300 transport + ¥400 meals + ¥100 contingency = ¥1,860 for the pair.
The tariff components are published references; the two-day basket is a deliberately conservative calculation, not a quoted two-day package. Rooms, road travel, meals and contingency are planning inputs. Exclude intercity fares, guides, shopping, evening shows, annual cards and separate Tianmenshan activities. Requote the whole transport if choosing a Shangqing or Yingtan base.
Sources, dates and what was not tested
Sources read on 22 October 2026. The current official site supplies operator identity, contact and the listed scenic areas. The August 2025 response is the operator’s own explanation of ordinary ticket components and road-safety constraints. Its 2026 annual-card notice confirms a separate raft product and lists sites, but this guide does not claim annual-card eligibility or an annual offer for passport holders.
The operator-attributed route guide supplies the river/cliff/land experience sequence; its old performance times, promotions and one-day pacing are not adopted as current promises. Today’s website ticket list contains placeholders and its traffic page lacks useful departures, so neither is treated as a checked transaction or live timetable.
