CHENGDU · THREE KINGDOMS VISIT

Wuhou Shrine 成都武侯祠

Choose the paid heritage area if Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang and the later memory of Shu Han interest you. Give the shrine about two hours and use the museum’s signed sequence. Jinli next door is a separate street decision; leave it for food and browsing if you still want that kind of evening.

01
DECIDE WHAT YOU ARE BUYING

The shrine and Jinli do different jobs

SHORT ANSWER

Reserve 成都武侯祠博物馆文物区 for the memorial halls, Tang stele, Liu Bei’s tomb precinct and Three Kingdoms interpretation. Use 武侯祠大街231号 as the Chinese destination. The adjacent 锦里 / Jinli street is an optional browse and meal afterward; snack and shop spending is separate from the heritage ticket.

The museum describes three parts to the wider complex: the Three Kingdoms heritage area, a western cultural area and Jinli. A photograph on Red Walled Alley alone misses why ruler Liu Bei, chancellor Zhuge Liang and the later community that commemorated them share the site. If that story is outside your interests, Chengdu Museum gives broader city history, while People’s Park makes a flexible tea stop. Use one anchor for a short Chengdu afternoon.

02
RESERVE THE CORRECT AREA

Buy an issued heritage-area order with your passport

  1. Open the museum’s own channel. Start at its Chinese ticket page and follow the official website or official 成都武侯祠 WeChat account. Select the 文物区 date and entry period. The normal full adult price is CNY 50; festival or special-event products can differ.
  2. Enter the exact document. The museum permits a foreign visitor to reserve with a passport or Chinese foreign permanent-resident ID. Match the passport name and number to each traveller. One document can hold one ticket for the visit date; a single account can reserve for up to eight named people per day.
  3. Keep the paid order. The normal presale window is 14 days. At the heritage gate, a foreign visitor presents the original booked passport and order QR for validation. An entered form or unpaid cart is no admission proof.

The ticket page lists normal 09:00–18:00 opening and 17:00 last entry. Holiday and temporary arrangements appear on the official announcement list. Use your issued entry period and schedule the ticketed halls before an evening street visit. The ticket desk is at the heritage area’s main gate, rather than an unspecified Jinli shop entrance.

If the form rejects the passport or payment, call the museum’s ticket office at 028-85535951 before fixing this as your day’s paid visit. Ask for the available official purchase route for the exact date and document. A third-party resale offer is especially weak evidence here: the museum says it has not entrusted outside parties to sell its admission or guide tickets online.

03
INSIDE THE SHRINE

Follow one museum route, then slow down at the people

The operator’s tour map gives a route beginning at 汉昭烈庙 / Hanzhaolie Temple, then the 唐碑 / Tang Stele, 刘备殿 / Liu Bei Hall, the civil-officer gallery, 诸葛殿 / Zhuge Liang Hall, 三义庙 / Sanyi Temple, 惠陵 / Hui Mausoleum, Red Walled Alley and the Three Kingdoms display. It also publishes a reverse route. This order is a clear first visit; follow the on-site open-area signs if a courtyard is restricted.

  1. Start with the inscription and ruler. Read the Tang Stele as evidence of how people centuries after Shu Han praised Zhuge Liang. In Liu Bei Hall, the central emperor figure and the adjoining civil and military galleries show who is being honoured and how the later shrine arranges rank and service. Choose a few figures rather than reading every label.
  2. Move to the minister. Zhuge Liang Hall is a smaller space with plaques, couplets and the chancellor’s image. Compare its scale and placement with Liu Bei Hall. The museum’s interpretation is about memory as well as third-century events; architectural fabric and statues come from later periods.
  3. Finish at kinship, tomb and display. Sanyi Temple recalls Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, including the story shaped by later fiction. Hui Mausoleum and the Red Walled Alley shift the visit from narrative to memorial landscape. Use the Three Kingdoms display to connect names and chronology before leaving.

The museum’s English map labels a roughly two-hour recommended route, with longer options around three and four hours. Use two hours for this core and shorten by skipping the extra galleries if the last-entry or dinner margin is tight. The courtyards and lane are outdoor walking; seek the visitor-service desk’s current route before relying on any claimed step-free passage.

04
AFTER THE PAID VISIT

Use Jinli for a chosen meal or browse

The museum’s own introduction distinguishes the heritage precinct from its Jinli folk-culture and shopping area. Jinli has historic styling, snacks and shops; it works as a relaxed end to the afternoon when that is what you want. Allow roughly 45–90 minutes as an editorial stop, rather than treating every stall as another exhibit or a mandatory continuation.

Choose a food item by its menu and visible price, and keep a proper dinner elsewhere if queues or the street’s commercial feel outweigh the pleasure. A late arrival can reverse the plan only if the museum still has a valid entry period: a Jinli stroll after last entry cannot recover a missed shrine order. The Chengdu guide places this block against museum-and-tea or Du Fu alternatives.

05
WHEN THE PLAN CHANGES

Protect the order and keep one usable afternoon

The operator’s refund rule says an unused ticket cancelled through its original channel before 17:00 on the visit date avoids a no-show count. Cancellation after 17:00 and by 22:00 can be refunded but counts a no-show; after 22:00 the system automatically refunds and counts it. Three no-shows within 60 calendar days can trigger a 90-day reservation restriction. A validated ticket is non-refundable. Use the order’s live terms when you act.

If there is no valid ticket or the entry period is gone, choose Jinli as a short street visit only if you want it, then move the paid heritage area to a confirmed date. For rain, you may still use the halls but the memorial route includes open-air courtyards. If passport validation or a restricted area changes the plan at the gate, use the official ticket office rather than promising access through another entrance.

EVIDENCE

Sources and date boundary

Checked 29 September 2026. The museum’s Chinese ticket page supports the normal adult fare, hours, passport reservation and QR gate process, presale, refund conditions and phone. Its English map supplies the named circuit and site interpretation; the museum introduction separates the heritage, west and Jinli areas. The official announcement list carries temporary changes. Use the original booked passport and order QR at the heritage-area entrance.
