Formula: scheduled connection − matching PEK branch standard = published planning margin. Replace 150 with the itinerary's actual scheduled minutes. A negative result is a no before payment; a zero or positive result still needs every proof item below.

This one-variable sensitivity holds the domestic departure at its scheduled time. It does not predict gate changes, border queues, bag delivery or airline recovery.
Close six facts before paying
- ProofEntry
- Required result
- The traveller has a current route to enter mainland China for this international-to-domestic transfer. The domestic ticket does not create entry permission.
- ProofTicket protection
- Required result
- Obtain a route-specific written answer naming both flights and who handles the domestic segment after a late inbound. Until then, plan as unprotected; one order, one PNR or one airline name is not proof.
- ProofTerminals
- Required result
- The exact date shows the international arrival terminal and domestic departure terminal; same-airport wording is not enough.
- ProofBaggage
- Required result
- Before payment, obtain a route-specific written answer about collection and re-check at PEK. At origin, close both the physical bag tag and the current carrier or airport instruction; if they conflict or either remains unknown, use the non-through branch.
- ProofBoarding pass
- Required result
- Confirm whether the domestic boarding pass is issued at origin, at a PEK transfer counter or only after entering the domestic departures flow.
- ProofCutoff
- Required result
- Read the operating carrier's current domestic check-in and gate cutoffs. Do not subtract them again from PEK's published transfer standard as if the airport forgot them.
Copy these two questions to the carrier or ticketing agent
TICKET PROTECTION
- Send
- Please confirm in writing whether [international flight/date] and [domestic flight/date] are one protected connection. If the inbound is late, which carrier or seller is responsible for rebooking the domestic sector?
- Accept or reverse
- Accept only a carrier or ticketing-agent reply that names both flights and the missed-connection responsibility. If no exact answer arrives, treat the itinerary as unprotected for planning and do not keep a 150-minute connection.
THROUGH BAGGAGE
- Send
- On this exact itinerary, can checked bags be tagged at origin to [final domestic airport], and must they still be collected and re-checked at PEK after entry and customs?
- Accept or reverse
- Before payment, accept a route-specific written carrier or seller answer. At origin, confirm both the printed bag tag and the current carrier or airport instruction. If an answer is missing, conflicts or says collect, use the matching non-through branch: 160, 170 or 180 minutes.
Use an official private carrier or ticketing-agent channel. The first message needs only the two flight numbers, dates and route. Do not put a name, PNR, ticket number, passport, date of birth, contact details, payment record or baggage-tag image in a public post or initial message. Supply additional private record fields only inside the official secure channel when the authorised agent requests them.
If relying on a visa exemption, check the published visa-free eligibility guide against your passport and trip purpose. If that route does not cover you, check the official consular guidance and confirm the appropriate visa or entry permission with the Chinese embassy or consulate responsible for your application before buying. A domestic onward flight still requires permission to enter mainland China; this transfer comparison does not grant it.
Run the six-step international-to-domestic flow
International arrival
Confirm the domestic flight's terminal with airline or airport staff before following a terminal route.
Health and border process
Follow the international-arrival process and complete the traveller's valid entry route. A minimum connection time is not an immigration approval.
Customs and baggage branch
Follow the live customs route. If baggage is not through-checked or normal transfer cannot be completed, collect it and use the fresh domestic-departure branch.
Transfer or terminal change
Use the signed transfer counter. For T2↔T3, follow staff to the official landside transfer shuttle and use the matching cross-terminal time standard.
Domestic check-in and bag drop
If no onward boarding pass or through-bag route exists, complete the operating carrier's domestic check-in and bag-drop process before its live cutoff.
Domestic security and gate
Pass domestic security, verify the live gate and protect the published gate-closing time. Do not treat positive branch margin as lounge or shopping time.
Six completed connection decisions
150 minutes, T3→T3, through bag, protected connection
- Result
- The branch is 30 minutes above PEK's 120-minute normal-operations standard. Keep it only after entry, protection, terminal and baggage proof close; the 30 minutes is disruption margin.
150 minutes, T2→T2, through bag
- Result
- The branch is 20 minutes above the 130-minute standard. A 20-minute inbound delay erases the published margin.
150 minutes, same terminal, baggage not through-checked
- Result
- It is 10 minutes short in T2 and 20 minutes short in T3 before any live disruption. Choose a longer connection.
150 minutes, T2↔T3
- Result
- It is 20 minutes short even with through baggage and 30 minutes short without it. Do not buy this branch.
Entry route is unconfirmed
- Result
- Do not rely on the I-D transfer. This flow passes border control; solve entry eligibility before payment or keep an international-to-international itinerary.
The checkout says Self-Transfer or separate tickets
- Result
- Assume baggage, entry, fresh check-in and missed-flight responsibility may shift to the traveller until the exact seller and airlines prove otherwise. Use the non-through branch and a longer connection.
Five failure-recovery cards
The inbound flight is late
- First action
- Show the domestic flight and cutoff to transfer staff immediately.
- Alternative
- Ask the validating or operating carrier for its protected-connection decision.
- Stop line
- Do not buy a replacement before checking any carrier or seller approval requirement; a separate ticket may remain the traveller's risk.
The bag is not tagged through
- First action
- Move to the matching non-through-baggage branch before departure.
- Alternative
- Confirm where baggage claim, customs, domestic check-in and bag drop occur.
- Stop line
- If the available time is below 160, 170 or 180 minutes for the actual branch, change the connection.
No domestic boarding pass or transfer handling
- First action
- Go to the signed transfer counter and show the itinerary.
- Alternative
- If normal transfer cannot be completed, follow the official baggage-claim and fresh domestic-departure route.
- Stop line
- Do this only with a valid entry route; otherwise contact the carrier before crossing the border process.
The terminal changes
- First action
- Recalculate using the 170-minute through-bag or 180-minute non-through branch.
- Alternative
- Follow staff to the official landside T2↔T3 shuttle.
- Stop line
- If the recalculated result is negative, ask the carrier to protect or change the domestic segment.
Entry cannot be completed
- First action
- Stop before improvising a landside domestic departure.
- Alternative
- Contact the operating carrier or airport transfer staff for a lawful itinerary change.
- Stop line
- An airport MCT, boarding pass or through bag cannot override the entry decision.
What this page does not promise
- That 150 minutes is safe for every PEK international-to-domestic transfer
- That a through ticket, boarding pass or bag creates entry permission
- That one airline name, OTA order or PNR proves ticket protection
- That baggage will be through-checked without both a printed final-destination bag tag and a current carrier or airport collect/recheck instruction
- That current terminals, gates or transfer handling will stay unchanged
- That the T2↔T3 shuttle or live queues fit a fixed travel time
- That a missed separate-ticket connection will be rebooked free
Write the six answers beside the itinerary
- Entry route
- Protected or separate ticket
- Arrival and departure terminals
- Printed final-destination bag tag plus current carrier or airport collect/recheck instruction; conflict or either unknown means non-through
- Domestic boarding-pass route
- Operating carrier's live cutoffs
Sources, date and boundary
PEK passenger-time and transfer-process pages were checked 25 August 2026. No live itinerary or representative I-D transfer was field-tested. Recheck airline terminals, baggage, cutoffs, ticket responsibility and entry eligibility before payment and after any schedule change.
